Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

planning to have a deck in our backyard. The 2 sides of the deck will be along the fences and would want to know if there are distance/gap regulations needed to follow or to consider when the fence posts/concrete need to be replaced or what if the neighbour plans to do an extension would their walls be only take space from their side and leave the current boundary fence? Thanks.

If the current fence is on the boundary line then thats not really a worry, you dont have to allow space for a neighbours potential constructions on their land ,

The bit about leaving space for fence repairs is more tricky ,

If youre about to spend a lot of money and/or effort putting in a new deck , then make sure the existing fence is in good nick , obviously if youre thinking of bringing the deck right up to the fence then there are no plants, beds or borders that need protecting on your side - so any work can easily be done from your side , now .

Does your neighbour know about your deck plans ,? Depending on the height of the deck are you now going to be "looking over "the fence into their back garden .. ?

If your neighbour ever builds an extension, they cannot use the boundary as part of their extension without your agreement. The side of any extension has to be something like a metre from the boundary.

Thanks all, its a low level deck about the same level of the door/house flooring so would not be overlooking. Fence is in good condition with concrete base and post. I just want to consider accessibility for future maintenance.

The Irish navy made a similar balls up , they auctioned off a patrol boat , for small enough money , left it fully fueled up , the fuel was worth nearly as much as the boat sold for .. not enough stinge..
