It's a line of people sitting , why do you assume it was a depiction of The Last Supper?

The event was otherwise excellent..never stated otherwise.

Dame Edna was never suggesting that men could be women and vice versa...quite rarely were these figures accepted, Dame Edna a caricature that was

Pantomime was never perceived as real, its entertainment..make believe.

Not outraged here, disturbed more so, and scratching my head at the coercion which precipitates it.

Well we know what happens when one particular religion gets mocked or ridiculed in any slight way.

Their adherents worldwide go apeshit, and people die.

The same outrage junkies don’t question and even defend a convicted criminal and rapist who spent inordinate amounts of time around Epstein and is on tape saying some very questionable stuff about female genitals and young girls (including his own daughter)

Of all the things to be “outraged” about in 2024 this is fairly laughable

You realise that Coronation Street had a trans character back in 1998. Not that radical.

Its simply a mechanism to deflect from something that can't be defended, akin to fingers in the ears lalala

What is your point. What Jewish or Muslim art work would you suggest they recreate with people in drag?

You have said you have no issue with it. But you are wondering why it is "OK to do this to Christians and not Jews or Muslims"

What image do you want recreated. Name one.

You can't because you are just using this an oppertunity to sh1t on a Muslims.

So the Opening Ceremony was excellent but you were disturbed by dancers in funny costumes.. right so. Your threshold for 'disturbed' is fairly low-- reminds me of that equally disturbing 'Jesus Toast' thing that had individuals in a state of apoplexy... give it a few hours and this will be a non issue, the world will continue, the rest of us will watch the sport, the poor children will not be traumatised by people in funny outfits or dancing queens, nothing will actually happen and most likely the outrage bandwagoners will lurch towards something else.

I always wondered who booked the table for the last supper. I’d like a table for 13, but we’re all going to sit on the 1 side please.

But they were drag acts, that is not the same as being transgender. Clearly you yourself are very confused by drag performances. Dame Edna was also a drag act, there's fundamentally no difference. Pantomime shows also rely heavily on drag. So basically you don't understand what drag is, it's a form of entertainment.

Got the table cheaper because it was actually up against the wall. That's why they were all on one side.

The OC probably have something in line for the closing ceremony involving the Jewish and Islamic religious.

They are just looking for a reason to be outraged. I forgot the first rule of Boards. Don't feed the trolls. I am out.

You're fairly clueless, the last supper is a biblical mention, the artwork is a depiction of that. Therefore, it's not about the artwork, any depiction of the Muslim or Jewish religions by text, could, be used, say Muhammad with his child bride, or the act of Metzitzah B'peh, imagine the outcry if that happened. Al religions should be mocked equally

But that's the thing...questioning or criticising something doesn't necessarily mean you are outraged...

I'd be more likely to be "outraged" at people walking around with hundreds of previous convictions for assault etc getting suspended sentences...but even then I don't think I'd meet a threshold for "outrage" if one exists.

I don't think it's an unreasonable observation to say they wouldn't do it with other religions some of whose adherents really would get outraged so on that basis perhaps they shouldn't do it with the majority one either...just seems like a moron or at best unnecessary decision to me

I assume you are talking about Trump above.....if so not a fan at all.

You realise that drag performances are a performance, right? It seemed to be lost on you. 😂

I remember years ago walking in to my elderly neighbours house and she was watching pornography. Pure pornography!

Well, it was Shirley Temple-Bar doing the Telly Bingo, but if we're to believe all drag is absolutely inherently sexual in nature, she was watching porn. She said something about just needing to get her hands on two fat ladies. I called her a dirty whore and ran out.

Ignorance, Misinformation, Bad Faith, Trolling? Take your pick.

I didn't hear the Bishop of Paris nor the Vatican kicking up any furor yet. Better things to be doing

  • Registered Users Posts: 273 ✭✭Sunjava

    Performance ok.

How it got the greenlight? It seems to be lost on you..

Are you saying it wouldn't be easy to find a famous image of major figure in Islam or an event from the qu'ran etc etc and recreate it in drag?

Is that the best people can do to rebutt the point made....

There's no famous painting of a muslim figure so what painting should we recreate.....strangely weak argument tbh!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 273 ✭✭Sunjava

And please stop with the belittling. It betrays your outrage😂

Last supper me hole,it's more like a dogs dinner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,199 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Because French people don't lose their **** about a drag performance? You said it would be confusing children across the globe, in spite of the fact that drag performances aren't remotely unusual. Also shows such as RuPaul's drag race have pretty much used that format in multiple countries including France so it's actually a pretty clever way to connect with audiences across the globe.

Can a Christian be offended by this without saying it should be done to other religions? I was offended by this but there is much more controversy to come - wait for the Chinese including those excused for failing drug tests winning lots and lots of medals. That will be some frothing of the mouth to observe.

What greenlight? Drag has been around for centuries!

How did you feel about the Can Can performance?

  • Registered Users Posts: 55 ✭✭SonicSuper

Whatever about the last supper depiction the general level of forcing the LGBTQ+/Trans agenda upon people is ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,067 ✭✭✭amacca

Fwiw I thought the can can was shite!

Hardly any of them were co-ordinated...one of them doing a leg kick while the other one was nearly starting a twirl

An embarrassment of a can can!!! My granny and her friends would do better

As for ga ga, what sort of shite song was that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,711 ✭✭✭StupidLikeAFox

I think you answered your own question in the first post - "I dont really have a problem with it". The fact is nobody really does, it's not considered that offensive. It's not funny either, it's a bit weird so I don't know what the point of it was, but broadly nobody really cares

Do the same for Islam and a lot of people will care, take offense and you are guaranteed to have a terrorist response. There's no danger inrecreating the last supper with drag queen but certain Muslims will literally blow up themselves and others if mohammed is disrespected. You can argue all day about whether this is right or wrong but until the Muslim extremists chill out a bit it's just the way it is
