Heating upgrade- gun barrel

    Hi

Anyone able to give a rough estimate on upgrading the plumbing in a 70s build 4 bed semi, 120 sqm.

    Or also whether it's indicated?

We know its gun barrel piping and surveyor advised upgrading the piping, rads, and controls. There is a newish boiler installed about 5 years ago.

We have a heating/plumbing guy coming next week for a quote but wondering what to expect.

We are wondering if it's something we should just get done upfront before fully moving in as it's likely a disruptive/messy job and might be harder to do down the line.

    Thanks in advance

In the process of replacing gun barrel pipes. Also replacing boiler and all radiators at the same time. These are 3 different jobs and can be done separately or all as one.

Very disruptive as floors have to come up to run new pipes. Not the entire floor but the boards where the pipes will run. We agreed to disconnect and leave gun barrel there as further cost to removing it completely.

Cost of mine is €8,700 so if you take boiler and radiators away my guess is about €4000-€5000.

Thanks a million that's really helpful appreciate the reply. In the end the plumber who came advised it wasn't really a must-do as there is a new boiler and some of the pipes have already been replaced with copper and no leaks in the system currently. Having to take up and probably replace the solid wood floors was an off putting factor for us too.

    Good luck with yours

Something to consider is that if you want to add a water pump for increased pressure then gun barrel may not be able to handle it.
