Currently driving a Nissan, the Aircon is on 18c (lowest temp) but only blows moderately cold, conversely in winter the heater (aircon off) only blows luke warm even when set to max temp 30c.

Before I bring it to a mechanic would anyone know have an idea of what is causing the symptoms?

If it's gradually being getting worse but still functioning to cool poorly it's likely low in gas. You can purchase DIY kits to top-up the gas but probably better to bring it to a mechanic or AC specialist to investigage if there's a leak requiring attention.

I've used this guy in Dublin before in Park West, knows his stuff…

Sounds like it might be more than just A/C gas if it can’t blow hot air either.

    Is it a Qashqui?

About a year after we got ours it went and brought it to get regassed, got that done and within 2 months it was gone again. Brought it back to the same garage and was told it's the air con radiator that needs doing so got it done (discount on the gas this time as I was fairly pissed that they hadn't spotted it was a leak first time around. This was also the garage I'd bought the car from). Think it was gone again within a year, garage that I go to now mentioned that it's a sensor I think but it would have to be regassed again after so haven't bothered yet. Fairly sure it's a known issue with them

That the AC and heat are both not working properly is either a coincidence that both are broken as they are entirely separate systems or a problem with the control unit not commanding either system to run.

What year car is it and is it a Jap import?

If it was just the AC I'd also recommend the same place as Atlantic Dawn.
