Civil court cases before the courts

What's the rational behind closing threads about civil court cases before the courts? I've never heard of any restrictions regarding reporting of civil proceeding before.

All family law cases are civil cases and will invariably be 'in camera' and can only be reported on in limited circumstances.

Defamation cases are civil cases and usually in front of a jury and can easily be prejudiced by public comment.

Humans intelligent, people stupid.

Boards.ie doesn't want to be dealing with the legal fallout from other people's misbehaviour.

There is no disctinction betrween Civil and Criminal cases

As Mods, CMods or Admins we have no flexibility. It's a blanket ban, and I cannot see the site seeking any legal advice on the matter. Clearly we cannot assume any legal knowledge in the Mod, CMod or Admin ranks. All we can do is apply the rule

News outets can judge the boundaries because they employ lawyers and/or seek specific legal advice
