Novice & N Plates query

I was just thinking about the requirement for drivers who have held their first full licence for under two years to display N plates and how exactly is that “verified” I guess by a licence check at a checkpoint or when renting a car?

I know the licence has an issue date but that can’t be relied on if the person holding it is old enough to have had a renewal surely? I presume the Gardai and rental companies etc have a way to check with NDLS?

No particular reason for the query other than personal curiosity.

The issue date doesn't change on you licence just the expiry date. On the back of my licence B if from 1998, C is from 2003 and EC is from 2004

Yes. All drivers must present a physical copy of their full valid unendorsed driving licence which they have must have held for a minimum of two year

    from Avis location specific requirements.

says FULL licence for 2 years, obviously to avoid arguments at the desk from newly qualified drivers.
