Sellling a Cat D car

    Hi All,

Went to trade in my 2010 Skoda superb today and dealer wouldn't take it as it was classified as a CAT d car. The bumper was slightly damaged in 2022 but I took the cask from insurance company and got it repaired as they wanted to write it off.

Am I now stuck with this car ? There is mechanically nothing wrong with it and any issues are visible but surface paint work etc, it is 14 years old.

Will any dealers take it as a trade in or will I have to scrap it or sell it as a damaged car on adverts or done deal etc?
Any advice would be welcomed as Im totally ignorant to any of this.

    Thanks

Sell it privately, e.g. adverts or donedeal. Price it slightly below what other similar ones are going for and someone will buy it.

Plenty of people have no problem buying Cat D or even Cat C (or the newer UK N/S equivalents).

Just sell it privately. Up to you weather you want to disclose the fact your 14 year old car had minor damage. Plenty of people will buy it regardless.

I'd love to know how many used cars especially 14 year old ones, sitting on dealer forecourts out there have never actually had any cosmetic repair done? I'd say you could count them on one hand.

Seems a silly expectation on a trade-in of that age but I suppose I can understand it would make it harder for the dealer to sell on with average joe running motor checks on everything these days. Sometimes information can be a bad thing especially on an old car and seems to trump common sense that an older car has bound to have had some light repair work done at some point.

so its not something that his a given for all dealers? That they won't take my car as a trade in?
thanks for replies so far by the way

Different dealers tend to view trade ins differently . Hence big trade in Differences . Another dealer might be more than happy to sell on to a small time used car dealer while another might not have these dealers to sell onto or be bothered

depends on the dealer really! I traded in a civic that was category D (was written off due to uneconomic repair but the damage was just front bumper nothing to worry about at all)

I don’t think he checked anyway but I did mention and he said he didn’t really care so!
