House insurance on 2nd property

I am looking at buying an apartment in Dublin to stay in for some of the working week. This is in addition to my family home. Since you can not get House Insurance unless living in the place, how can you insure 2 properties and say you are living in them?

Just get holiday home insurance. Lots of people have second homes.

Apartments are insured under the OMC policy. All you would need is a contents policy.

If you didn't know that much about the whole OMC thing, I'd strongly suggest a lot more research. OMCs and apartment complexes are bad enough, but worse if you're only there part time.

OMCs are as good or bad as the directors. I'm in an OMC with reasonable charges, less than €600 for a 2 bed, which is on top of maintenance and has done several major renovations over the years. To avoid the high fees you have to buy in a complex with no lifts, underground parking or electric gates.

Insurance for a holiday home will be more expensive and you have do all your own maintenance or pay someone to. Don't forget that there is a lot of work involved in maintaining a house and if it's only for occasional use this can make every visit busy.
