Employer not paying salary on due date

    I'm paid monthly, the last 2 bank Holidays salary was 4 days after due date. Up to last Friday I still had not been paid for August, I told employer on monday when I get paid for last month I will attend work, money arrived in account at lunchtime and I went to work was called in & told they were not happy that i did not attend work until today. I told him I live from month to month, embarrassingly I had to borrow from friend& family to pay bills and did not have money to put petrol in my car. What rights do I have? He seems to think he has the right to treat employees like this. Others were not paid either.
