Furze Departs Boards - Exit Thoughts

Furze is departing Boards after engaging on Boards for a number of years across various threads. Furze has always been happy to help & advise others where possible on matters relating to business, DIY, motoring, sports and so on. Furze also enjoys engaging in debate on current affairs & politics and has appreciated the value of Boards as being a site with mostly fellow Irish contributors.

    Profile of Furze

    • Furze may soon be classified as a 'senior citizen'.
    • Furze views the role of the citizen being to contribute to society and to help support both the state and other citizens less able to provide for themselves.
    • Furze has previously been a member of the Green Party and has always to date voted Green, Labour and likeminded Independents.
    • Furze has always enjoyed open debate on current affairs & politics and learning from others.
    • Furze in other words is a solid citizen, with typical centre or left of centre views. Broadly representative of many in Irish society.

How is it then that Furze feels it necessary to depart Boards? It has become increasingly apparent that it is not possible to engage thoughtfully on this site, without the ongoing threat of warnings and thread bans from moderators. This came to a head two months ago with disrespectful comments from moderators and no apparent attempt to investigate valid dispute. Furze has taken time & effort to explain issues around poor moderation in the 'Site is a Graveyard' feedback thread. Furze notes the advice on the recent version of that thread that moderators are approved to 'shape' threads according to how they personally see fit. This is clearly at odds with the concept of respectful open debate and is borne out by the negative experience described above. That someone of Furze's profile finds Boards to be a censorious place to debate current affairs and politics should be a matter of concern to all except the extremists and trolls.

To the usual suspects who will reply that 'all you need to do is abide by site rules' I advise you to save your sanctimonious speeches & patronising patter. Take a good hard look at your own motives and perhaps take my parting advice - your goal should be to leave the country of your birth a better place than when you came into it.

I expect those mentioned below to disable and discontinue this account. Seeing as you have removed any facility for posters to do this themselves through account settings.
