Do they contact Naturalisation references?

Hi, hope all is well. I've applied for my naturalisation for sometime now and last thing I heard was the garda vetting which was completed. Does this mean they no longer need to contact my references provided at the time of the application? And if they would still contact them, how would they usually contact them and what if their contact details were outdated at the time? Any insights would be much appreciated!

I was a reference for a few people, and was not contacted. Also one friend (when sending in his application) truckated a few mobile numbers in error, and this never became an issue either

I have been a reference for a dozen or so Naturalisations and have never been contacted.
