Dublin to Bantry

Can anyone advise what's the best way of getting from Dublin to Bantry next Saturday morning via public transport please?

Train/bus to Cork or Killarney, and then the 236 bus (from Cork) or the 270 bus (from Killarney).

Cheers and do those buses stop at the train station? Any idea how regular/reliable they are?

no idea about reliability but I guess fron cork you’d walk across from Kent station to the bus station on the south quay. Maybe a ten or 15 mins walk

Would you ever feck off with that nonsense. I'm asking people for information on a subject I don't know anything about. That is literally the whole point of a platform like boards. Of course I checked Google maps and bus eirann timetables but I've no idea if they are accurate or reliable hence me asking for the quite reasonable assistance of those who might be able to help.

Thanks for that I've never been down that neck of the woods so any advice is greatly appreciated as I'm trying to connect a train and a bus and don't want to make a mess of it

Cheers I did actually try 2 different route planners but just wasn't sure of my options if I miss the connecting bus or train. I'm going down there to buy a car and the seller is going to meet me in Bantry town centre

Yep there is a bit of a large window of 2 hours between them at lunchtime so I need to get my timings right. I think the 7am train from heuston is looking the best bet, I then have 10am and 11am bus options

First off - use the TFI journey planner to get the options available, which is at:

The easiest and fastest option is train to Cork and bus from Cork to Bantry.

Bus options from Cork to Bantry are Bus Éireann route 236 or West Cork Connect route 229.

There is also the option of using the Bus Éireann route 270 bus between Killarney and Bantry, which is one of the most scenic bus routes in the country, but it does take longer.

You can use LEAP card on the 236 bus and get a 30% saving on cash fares.

You can walk from Kent Station to either the Bus Éireann bus station or to St. Patrick's Quay for the West Cork Connect service (10-15 mins walk).

Alternatively the 205 and 214 buses link the south side of Kent Station with Parnell Place Bus Station in Cork.

You've been given potential routes. If you think a handful of random strangers are more reliable than the bus eireann timetables then I suggest you stay in Dublin where it's safer.

That cars been for sale for months so I hope you got a great price and the least the seller could do is drive to the train station to hand it over. I wouldn't be making a sale of a 30k car that was hard shifted. any more difficult for the buyer So if it's that car it is lovely.

Aircoach to Cork, then a short 3 minute walk to the West Cork Connect stop at Patrick's Quay. That bus doesn't get to Bantry until around lunch time though. Much newer and cleaner buses. With Bus Eireann, you could end up on a 15 year old skip with wheels.

Cheers I think I'll stick with the train for the first leg of the journey. Last time I was on a bus I got travel sick!

If you get travel sick, I wouldn't be taking the chance of BE for the Cork to Bantry leg. You might get a new bus. Or could just as easy end up on a 15 year old banger with no air and the heating on full blast.

West Cork Connect are run by several different private operators, but I would expect a pretty decent bus on the Cork Bantry route as it's pretty popular.
