Plenty of work planned but the waterford/Ireland says no brigade are allegedly putting off commencement of work as they have a tendency to put 2 + 2 together and end up with 50 followed by petrol soaked fabrics in bottles being lobbed in on top of workers

Let's be honest, all the men in tents along the canal need to be moved into somewhere.

the owners of these hotels will be millionaires over night if they get the asylum seeker payments …. Normally owners will be well connected to Fine Gael or Fianna Fáil TDs to get the ludicrously generous payments

    Some mad conspiracy theories there🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,023 ✭✭✭Hijpo

    What's the conspiracy?

Millionaires over night is a bit of a stretch, agreed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,100 ✭✭✭spankmemunkey

Not the bit about collusion with gov parties to get favourable rates and payments?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,023 ✭✭✭Hijpo

Everything is a theory until happens though right? Hardly a conspiracy when collusion with government parties and senior government officials has absolutely happened before in a multitude of instances.

Poster said nothing about "favourable" rates or payments.

Hoteliers get paid to take in refugees, true.

Companies and firms associated with politicians always come out on top because nepotism and corruption, that has been proven, true.

I don't see any conspiracy theories.

    100% correct Hijpo

Can you give me one example of collusion between a company in waterford and a politician?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,023 ✭✭✭Hijpo

Fred Forsey. Four years in jail for taking payments from developers and going to councillors to get land rezoned.

You aren't that naive to think the links are directly back to politicians. You know as well as everyone else there's an acquaintance of a cousin involved when it comes to this stuff.

It only happens if they get caught right?? 😉

But let's not derail it any further.

Which hotel are you talking about? The one by the library or the one by the amusements?

Which politician? im not being smart but youve named 1 instance that Ive asked for, you are stating that its common practice that politicians today are corrupt and accept bribes, I cant agree with you there. The Hotel I was refering to is the Grand Hotel, which was bought by frisby construction, Hotel owners are perfectly entitled to house whom ever they want in their hotels, Theres nothing corrupt or no need to bribe or win contracts to house Asylum seekers. There isnt enough hotels available to fill the need and alot of hotel groups wont accept asylum seekers or take up the offer of housing asylum seekers as they see it as bad for their business model. some business owners couldnt care less but probably didnt care much about employees rights etc to begin with

Also can I just say, We cannot have a functional society without proper governance and political systems, A society without these things would be a complete breakdown in society, on the other hand if you prefer we could have communism, where you would be told what to do without elections, i know which one I'd prefer, thats a political system where I get to choose and vote, and if you still really arent happy with politicians, then get involved yourself and run for election or set up your own party etc, cos until then youre just moaning on boards like this and being grumpy about how you dont like the current status quo without doing anything about it, People are flawed, there are bad people in every aspect of society, some have gone to jail, Doctors killing patients, Nurses killing babies, bad accountant, bad teachers and so on, humans by their nature are flawed.

This thread doesn't have much longer to live based on how its going…

Just because you decide to believe that all politicons are corrupt and all firms associated with them get favoritism doesn't make it fact, it makes it your personal view and basically a conspiracy theory.

yes you will always have bad apples, but its idiotic to tar everyone with same brush.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,023 ✭✭✭Hijpo

Show me where anyone tared every politician with the same brush. For one, there were two specific parties named by one poster so that can't mean all politicians, right? Second, just because plural is used you cant assume it means all just because that's what you want it to mean so you can go off on one.

With you being a moderator I would have expected that, at the very least, posts are read properly without your judgment being skewed because how dare anyone have an opinion on some ethically sketchy business opportunities but whatever. Show me a business associated with a politician or buddies of a politician that own a business that hasn't come out on top. Garaunteed the majority have, but you'll just put it down to extremely good business practices 😀

Imagine saying a personal view is a conspiracy theory because you don't have the same opinion, even though there's evidence of business with links to politicians getting lucrative deals and contracts and inside information 😀 Unbelievable

Anyway, I left it where it was and tried to bring the thread back on track regarding the hotel. Then you launch in and brought it back around to politicians.

so, for the second time of asking because you derailed it.

The hotel, I haven't seen any workers going in or out of that place, maybe when they are finished with the two housing estates they are building they will start on their "boutique" hotel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,100 ✭✭✭spankmemunkey

You gave 1 instance, not a multitude of instances, its you who derailed the thread by posting that ff and fg are somehow in bed with developers erc etc, you were the one who took it off thread, Im sorry but you did, its in black and white above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,023 ✭✭✭Hijpo

You asked for one very specifically in waterford, I gave you one. You know I'm not going to provide you with 50 so just ask for 50 and yourself and cabaal can have your "ah ha gotcha" moment. Have another read, I didn't say anything about FF/FG. Granted, my first post wasn't about the construction on the hotel, however I did try and get back on topic.

Anyway, third times a charm, I checked the planning website and it looks like they don't even have planning permission submitted yet so I guess they can't do anything with it until they do??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,100 ✭✭✭spankmemunkey

No, sorry it was the previous poster who said FF FG which you said no conspiracy there.

Surely planning permission isnt needed to renovate?

I know it was a compulsory purchase in place as it was owned along with the showboat by a non resident chineese investor, I think it was bought and sold again in a short space of time(months perhaps) to Frisby, who made a big statement about putting it back to its former glory, Oldest hotel in the country, no parking though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,023 ✭✭✭Hijpo

I guess whatever the plan on doing needs permission, could need ground works or complete changes to the outside of the building?

Yeah, could struggle with limited parking although they have extended the carpark beside the library up into the Supervalue one. In saying that, if it's a "boutique" hotel it could be coach loads of well to do foreigners who won't need parking.

Maybe they are waiting to see what happens with the airport as well.

Getting the thread back on track, this might be of interest to some. I've not looked up the company directors of any of the locations on the list,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,464 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

…and the disturbing reality is folks, we re very likely to experience perpetual ffg governments, well into the 30's, maybe even the 40's, as we re not willing to give the only alternative government party a shot at it, i.e. sf, so, keep the recovery going!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,100 ✭✭✭spankmemunkey

SF's numbers dropped though in the last local elections, I personally dont think the issue is Party Politics issues, I think its very hard to steer the ship away from its course. Look at England Kiers Starmer (spelling?) As soon as they got in power all the promises they made, or the vast majority were dropped and the excuse given was the damage was done by the previous government.

All the protests we saw in coolock and around the country, who did they vote for? I dont think it was SF, I would say most likely independants, but it gets them no where, Realisticly Ireland is doing really well in comparrison to Framce Germany Spain, If you're poor or on the dole in those countries, you are really poor, the social system in Ireland is way better than most other european countries, The housing crisis granted, I think that should be the biggest agenda for any political party but over all it is a good country and a good standard of living in comparison

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,464 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

i some what agree and disagree, our established parties are stuck, simply unable to truly change, but in saying that, our opposition isnt a whole lot better either, ireland and the eu is in serious trouble, theres clearly extremely serious social and now economic issues arising right across the continent, irelands economy on paper certainly looks good, extremely good in fact, but our rapidly growing social problems will more than likely wipe that out very very quickly….

we have extremely serious problems growing in housing, health care, long term infrastructure problems, including transport infrastructure etc etc etc, again, established parities are completely stuck, thinking market entities will eventually resolve these rapidly growing issues, but the reality is, this is very unlikely to be the case!

i do agree that welfare in other parts of the eu is worse than here, but the reality is, not only are many on welfare in trouble here, so to are many workers to, including some earning healthy 5 figures, thats a problem!

this is where 'social mobility' comes into it, or the lack of, its clearly obvious the eu now has a serious social mobility problem, and thats a problem for us all, if we dont rectify this quickly, the eu will sink, and very very quickly, we have to urgently do something about this, not only for younger generations, but for all of us, as its very unlikely critical welfare needs such as pension funds wont be sustainable in the future, nor will our health care systems, including elder care, due to our aging populations…

ireland does have a good standard of living, if your critical needs such as housing, health care, welfare etc are being met, but the reality is, this is in decline for more and more! thats social mobility again!

but again, dont worry, we re not gonna experience any major governmental changes here for a very long time, if ever, so, tis all good!

Well i do know that goverment is increasing pressure on universities to take on more apprentices in fact i know as a friend of mine works in a local university where almost all of the building trades have increased in class sizes and this is directly pushed via government departments, I dont think anyone in government is sitting back and saying ah sure its grand dont worry. I do think its a massive task to try and turn things around no matter whos in power.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,464 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

again, i do somewhat agree, government is finally kicking into the gear, but a significant amount of societal damage has now been done from current and past government failures, and a lot of that is now permanent, governments were warned about this years ago, yet nothing!

for example, many, possible most that have found themselves homeless during this period will now have significant health care problems for the remainder of their lives, including and in particular long term mental health issues, some extremely serious, many and possible most will never actually work. this clearly puts astonishing pressure on our critical social services, welfare, health care etc

again, we knew this was gonna happen, we know this is the outcome of such decisions and policies, we ve known this for decades, yet…..

we re all going to pay for this, indefinitely, and not just financially!

yes its great our critical services are starting to kick into gear, but its simply too late for many now, just too late!

yes its a mammoth task to do what needs to be done, all governments would struggle with the task, but again, we were warned many years ago, actually decades ago!

I hope Tramore gets a hotel not refugee accomodation.
