Is planning required, Garage door to window?

Hi,

We have a garage at the front but it is not attached to our house, we were going to turn it into a room, just really a hang out space for the kids. We were initially just going to seal in the garage door from the inside, put a stud wall over it as there is separate access door at the side. A guy came to look to price up to finish inside and said you should put window there instead, he said we don’t need planning because structure is already there, not sure about this. We don’t really need the window for light as we’ve put in a velux already at the back but he’s saying to do it properly we really should remove the door. Thoughts?

Not enough to say if planning is needed. What's the area of the space. If over 25m planning is required. Also, when you say "at the front" where is it in relation to the front wall of the house. Further back or further forward?

It really depends on the impact to your neighbours. Likely don't need planning so long as the window isn't looking into their house or garden.

If you already have windows facing the same direction then you'll likely be fine.

The window direction doesn't affect whether planning is required or not. Either it's exempt or its not based on set criteria
