child benefit going into someone's post office account

hello, child benefit was paid into a separate account which were not routinely checked by us.

we just realized that benefits were not deposited in our account for last 6 months . after checking with department, they told us that its getting deposited regularly into a post office account.

but we never opened any post office account or authorized it.

not sure who changed the account .

Should we update the account with correct details so that next month's fund is received correctly or department should be doing this ?

also what happens to last six months benefit?

You need to contact the Guards and file a report immediately.

The department themselves need to tell you when it was changed and by whom at very minimum

This didn't happen by accident & I suspect criminality involved. Something similar happened a friend of Mine & without going into details the Department was found to be at Fault & Gardai where involved.

It is Not good enough to be Told "" Someone Changed the Account" this needs reporting to Gardai & officially to the Department.

thanks .. looks like someone opened the account with our name in post office and directed payments to it.
