New Renter

So had a man over to tell us he's going to be starting renting land beside us from a wealthy dub who has bought fair bit of land in the area, now this man is starting to thing he's a big farmer by the carry on. He's told us and couple others he's going to fence the lot because he's going to be putting sheep in and we have to chip in as our land is touching the Dubs.

Most in the area are out of farming including ourselves so not sure how or why its our problem is it not more on himself to stop his animals coming into our land because as of now no one is having any problems with animals.

What ya reckon should we fork out couple of grand for this lad or tell him to take a hike.

As a fellow dub with sheep in my field, tell him take a hike and explain why. His sheep, his responsibility.

Its his responsibility that his animals don't roam , unless when your houses were built / sites sold , something was included in the deal about the site owner maintaining fencing,

he’s having you on. He’s a chancer.its his responsibility to keep his stock on his land. If you want to ring a local farm advisor or local dvo office then you can say you where advised by the relevant bodies. If he wants to run flocks of sheep now on that ground that’s his decision and he can sort it out himself. Tell him to apply for the fencing grant. Make sure all your neighbours sing of the same hymn sheet also.

I would also add to say him if they break in and ruin your lawn and garden that you will pursue him through the courts for repair cost as the DVO have informed you it’s the land owners responsibility to make sure the land on which they keep the animals is stock proof; not you the neighbour.

I think first approach would be to just explain nicely that he can't expect anyone else to pay to fence in his stock.

Second approach ..... take a hike.

just remember this works both ways too. if he does put animals in neighbouring fields its up to you to keep pets under control

Something tells me it's not the last you'll hear of someone like that.

You could have my neighbour, who isn't worried whether anyone has a fence up and his sheep in everyone's place.
