Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

One of the kitchen taps has started dripping and I'm looking to replace the washer. Before I start prodding at it can anyone help me get the name of the model of the tap and how to remove the top. There's two of them for hot and cold water

    That's a quarter-turn ceramic cartridge type and not a washer-type.

    https://duckduckgo.com/?q=quarter+turn+ceramic+cartridge&t=lm&ia=web

As for access to the cartridge, lever off the round cap on the top of the handle and expose and undo the screw and remove the handle. Then use a plumbing wrench to remove the cartridge while supporting the base of the tap from twisting in the sink. You should be able to get the replacement cartridges from online specialists, for example:

    Edit: Correction!

can i hijack this if the original question has been answered?

i've got what i consider a 'traditional' outdoor brass tap - no problem when it's turned off, but when it's on there's a leak (and not from where the water should be coming from) if used with a hose gun which allows pressure to build up in the hose.

can the seal/washer be replaced, or is it a case of replacing the tap?

Is the water coming out of the collar between the spindle/handle and the tap body? If so, it's just like mine, it's just a poor quality tap. I tighten down the brass nut around the spindle and it fixes it for a while… but it opens up again after a few weeks. Never investigated it further, but it's logical that there is a seal in there which could be replaced.

That's pretty much it. Probably been there since 2005 or maybe much earlier I think.

I suspect a quick browse of YouTube will give me the answer.

Yeah, mine is from 2003… probably the same bad batch/manufacturer.

When it's dry (if ever!), spray it with WD40 then loosen that top nut off a half turn and then tighten it back up. Then test the handle and tighten it again as needed.

Can often be fixed with a rubber O ring.

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

Think i used some plumbers tape around the spindle under the nut.
