Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

East 17 (and Take That)!

First of all to say, I hate boybands and commercialised and manufactured music. Can't stand the sight of Boyzone, Westlife and anything else of that ilk. They rightfully get pillored and hammered by music critics, as it's not music.

Before I get to my point with East 17 and Take That, I dislike them, as they led to a generation of clones, which continues to this day, and infact got worse.

And as much as I dislike the music generally of East 17 and Take That, they don't really get their fair dues in a way. I think it should be retrospectively appropriate to give both some credit, whether you do or don't like them.

They wrote their own music. A completely bizarre idea to get your head around with boybands, but they did. Tony Mortimer and Gary Barlow could write a decent melody too. Boybands get panned as I said, but its overlooked that these two, the original two boybands who started the trend in the UK, actually wrote their own songs but it's never acknowledged really. They get no respect in the wider music community, thrown in with all the other boybands and panned.

Gary Barlow is famous, but Tony Mortimer in particular, deserves a place in music history, as a respected musician and songwriter. As I said you dont have to like their music, but it is worth pointing this out. Tony Mortimer is a better songwriter and musician, than many others, in original bands. The guy had talent, and rarely, if ever, I've seen him get any acknowledgement of this in the wider music community or by music critics!

Ye East 17's music is dirt critically, but no one can give credit to the fact Tony Mortimer had the ability to write original music, a talent few in the world have, and bring it to commercial success?

The man has never gotten any credit, from any corner tbh, even going back to the 90's. And now thrown in and panned and wrote off, with all the other manufactured acts. He must be the greatest example of a person, receiving no acclaim, on any count, for his ability as an original songwriter.

I hate East 17, it's not the point. Tony Mortimer could still write a lyric and melody better than most people ever will be able to. The music world has done him a great disservice tbh!
