Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Long story short, my 2008 bullet proof golf got written off (other drivers fault)… still not over it, so got the above as a rushed decision.

Niggly bits needed to be done to it, I didn't use my usual mechanic as he is in another county and as I switched jobs it made it harder for me to get to him, so I brought it to the local mechanic.

In fairness to him, he is really good, gets parts cheaper, only replaces small parts instead of full things other mechanics may suggest.
Even in my other car there was a knocking sound he fixed in 5 mins when 2 other mechanics needed full days to look at it.

The issue is he is hard to understand, so there is blurred lines when he is explaining things. I'm hoping someone in here can shed some light?

I am not questioning what he is saying but just if it sounds right due to the language barrier

    1. ABS light came up, sensor replaced (also what sensor sat in was rusted so replaced as well) but light still comes up… may go off for 2 weeks and on for 1, he said the wiring is the issue, may be a crack in it - does this sound correct ( don't think it an expensive job)

    2. Changing gear was hard to do for 1st and 2nd, he replaced with a small part (again instead of the whole lot) and it fixed it (still not great but better than what it was…. while doing that he took the rocker cover off and noticed a small bit of oil coming through. (this was 2 months ago)

For the past 2 months he has been trying to get a cheap rocker cover from Poland but cant, he said it is €450 alone to get one here for a replacement cover, but not to worry just yet as its only a tiny amount of oil he wiped away, and to leave it until the exhaust becomes smokey then to replace.

Did I get this right? or does the smoke mean its too late and the job becomes worse than it is.

I cant help on the first 2 issues but i had to get a rocker cover for Citreon 1.6 HDI engine last year and it was 350 euro.

There were cheaper alternatives of the same part but they were not in stock at the time.
