hi iv been having this problem for a while audi pre sense fault it’s never applied the braking for me but I get a fault on the dash more annoying then anything usually when it 10 degrees or lower.so i brought it to audi today and they said id need a new camera and a fuse which will cost €1400 which I can’t afford so I’m just wondering does anyone know if it can be bypassed mapped out. I don’t trust main dealers to be honest if the fuse was gone how do they know if the camera not working

Bring it to an auto electrician or an independent mechanic for a second opinion. Even if Audi are right it will be much cheaper repairing it elsewhere. You could also consider buying second hand parts.

hi I asked if I could get a second hand camera they said they wouldn’t calibrate it for me

Of course they won’t, you would need to go to an independent mechanic and get it fitted and calibrated elsewhere

Camera and a fuse is an odd combination.

Interesting that it's only under 10°C.

It could, (depending on the car, especially a hybrid) be that the car thinks that the battery hasn't enough power to run the ABS pump in order to brake the car if it needs it.

Depending on the fault, it could be repaired too. I can tell you that €1400 is about 10X the cost to make the camera, and 3X what you should be able to be get it done privately.

Does it use the adaptive cruise control sensor or is it something else entirely?

it’s a camera that behind the rear view mirror it’s hard to get any proper info on it.with the fuse i thought if fuse is gone the fault would be on all the time but only come on at 10 degrees or lower so didn’t come on today.i got a guy that does mapping to plug it in for me and nothing came up for him.its an Audi a4 b9 2016

You'll likely need Audi software, which an Audi specialist would probably have. With any ADAS equipment, the dealer will take an incredibly conservative approach and is far more likely to just replace parts rather than try to do any repair. eg: if it was a loose wire, they would just replace the whole harness rather than the plug itself.

Without knowing the specific car, it could have radar, a camera, or both. VW made a fantastic move IMO having radar ACC in almost every car for the past 10 years or so. Given their popularity it's no doubt saved thousands of collisions.

But in a 2016 Audi, if it's camera only, it's more likely to be just an emergency braking system. It's only more recently that camera-only systems are doing ACC.

so update on this iv taken on your opinions and rang a few places that do Adas they say they can fix for half the price €700 which is obviously better but still a lot of money was talking to one lad it’s a bit of a funny one but he said but a crack in the windscreen and when I go to replace they’ll have to calibrate the camera with the new windscreen.and that will be covered by insurance on my policy.

I'm not advocating insurance fraud, but even with that, it could take hit on your policy. The insurance company will allow X amount for a windscreen, once you get into replacing cameras (even if an enormous rock destroyed it), you're into a real claim.

In any case - a calibration shouldn't cost €700, so it's more than just a calibration that's wrong.
