Switching from VM to Sky fibre broadband

During the Summer, following an upgrade of our Virgin Media broadband to fibre to in my area of D15 by Circet, it seems as though we have a fibre connection to the house, a coaxial cable connection from the TAP on the eaves to the VM connection inside.

In the last few days I've been discussing my options with both VM and Sky and am totally confused.

As regards VM they can change the coaxial cable piece of the connection and also the modem to a fibre connection. Does this then give me the option of switching to Sky, purely by swapping the modem, as I believe VM carry Sky on their fibre broadband network.

Sky also offer fibre broadband at a reduced price but can they use the existing VM connection (cable coaxial) or will they have to install a new connection, something I wouldn't be keen about.

Don't have an Eir connection at present and have no desire to have one.

Any technical advice or guidance from the experts as to how to proceed would be most appreciated.

I made the move away from VM myself recently to Vodafone fiber, who also offer fiber similar to Sky on the VM network.

The fiber installs will be a new line, they can't use the co-axial. We had it too. An engineer will need to come out and run a fiber line to your house and drill a new hole etc. It's pretty straightforward to be honest.

I have a friend who works for Vodafone. He said they can now connect using Virgin cable in some areas but not the others. I imagine Sky is the same. I'm not sure what is the exact criteria.

Sky and Vodafone prefer to use SIRO connection where it's available.

Eir prefers to use OpenEir connection.

Virgin Media prefers their own connection.

So that's 3 different physical sockets. You would have to call Sky to ask them how are they planning to connect you exactly.

You can use ComReg Broadband Checker to see what cables are officially signed off as available at your address.

Just to piggyback on this, if Circet have upgraded my area recently am I correct in thinking that I’ll need to ask VM to change my existing connection ?
