BEWARE...DK Windows and Doors (Dublin based) has closed down!

Reported on a number of social media sites, DK Windows and Doors has closed its doors. I was waiting for an order, had paid over €10,000 in deposit, and now I'm holding out little hope of recuperating.

Is anyone else in the same boat? Anyone know who their manufacturers are? I think going direct to the manufacturers is the only hope. I don't think any liquidator has been appointed yet.

I'm raging about this. Don't know what else to do.

I'm facing the same situation as you. I also paid a deposit over 10,000 euros to DK Windows in July 2024. In October, they contacted me to pay the remaining balance, promising to install the windows in November. However, they have since postponed the installation number of times and are now unresponsive to phone calls and emails, despite my repeated attempts to contact them.

We visited their office, but it was closed, which is deeply concerning. It seems like many others are in a similar situation. Perhaps we can form a group to seek legal assistance?

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Get legal advice. IANAL but it's possible that trading whilst insolvent (and particularly taking customer deposits when there is no reasonable expectation of the goods being delivered) may open the directors to personal liability.

There a line between the necessary optimism required to run a business and outright scumbaggery.

    Hi,

I’m in the same boat. Paid deposit end of September and installation was due early December.

Any luck finding out who the manufacturer is they use? Thinking of doing the same thing and contacting them direct.

    Cheers

According to their 2022 accounts there was 873k in customer deposits "held". Yet only 86k in the bank. Clearly using customer deposits as working capital. Totally unsustainable. 2023 accounts late.

Jesus…if 10K was only the deposit, what kind of sums are we talking here for windows and doors?

We reckon there is close to €1m in customer deposits tied up in the company.

EcoSolutions have also gone bust. My sister is waiting for the front door she ordered as they had installed the rest of the windows she'd ordered. She's also waiting for a replacement window as the one they installed was cracked. She found out when she got a creditors meeting letter today.

It has been alleged that some of the installers were contractors and were owed payments of ~20k for three or more months. That to me would unsurprisingly imply that the dire financial state was well known about by the directors, but that didn't stop them feathering their nests.

I've been in contact with their supplier and my 50% deposit is paid and my windows are almost ready. They gave me no other information as of yet , it seemed like they knew nothing about a closure.

A Staff member posted its was the month of November only which would make more sence, who would work three - four months with no pay.

Are the windows in Ireland and do you have to arrange shipping and installation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 lou.glen

No not shipped yet. I'm not sure, they didn't have any Information for me except that they had received my order and 50% paid so that's something i don't mind sorting the rest.

I paid my deposit for a new front door on 21/11 and by 28/11 they are gone 🤯 absolute scum bags taking money off people while knowing full well company is insolvent and that comes from the top . I’m one of the luckier ones as I only lost a small amount in comparison to some other . Horrible situation

Hi, we are in the same boat, paid deposit in September was expecting fitting over the next two weeks. Does anyone know how do you find out the supplier off the invoice? I see they have two window suppliers on the website.

I don’t think it’s shown on the invoice. It’s not on mine anyway. My order is for alucad windows so I was told by ex employee it was more than likely Roda so I sent them an email. Waiting to hear back from them now

    Awful for customers involved.

The way window companies come and go, and looking for hefty deposits, they should be bonded.

During the depths of the recession, one big window company I dealt with (who are still around and who I still deal with) suggested (to me) clients pay deposits by credit card so there may be some chance of getting money back if the company went down.

If anyone has paid deposits by credit card, contact your bank pronto and ask for a chargeback to be initiated. Back during the recession I worked in banking and saw a lot of customers get stung when companies went bust before completing orders. The ones that paid deposits by credit card were able to get their money back by doing a chargeback.

Take a look at this thread below for others who went through a similar experience.

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058275956/beware-signature-windows-gone-into-liquidation-any-lost-money-to-theses-con-artists-help

As others have said, at this stage credit card clawback is probably the only show in town so pursue if you can. This is a word of advice to others, always pay credit card, even offer to pay the credit card charges (around 2%) of the provider if they still insist on bank transfer, if they still refuse then be suspicious.

Unfortunately if you paid by other means then its going to mean best case you get something small but reality you will get nothing. Customers are unsecured creditors and last in list to get any money. It is going to be very difficult to accept this but to save you going crazy its best to accept this horrible realisation rather than driving yourself crazy.

It wont get your money but I contact journalists as it sounds like the directors traded recklessly which is illegal. Start with Laura Roddy who did the piece on Signature Windows (which now has weirdly been removed from their website / internet)

My 74 yr old mother paid 50% deposit for a door and same things as all others on here ..does anybody know who the supplier is that they use . Would like to contact them ? I see Roda mentioned ? Any help would be appreciated. Companies behaviour is criminal .. they must have known and continued to take money of customers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 paulor2000

I’m in same boat as your mother . If it’s a palladio front door it will be through the palladio door company in Limerick
