Doorbell transformer replacement

Hi folks,

Fear this is a rookie question but here goes. Looking to upgrade doorbell and have received a new transformer to be installed in place of the traditional/old school bell transformer.

Question is whether it's a case of opening the chime box and replacing the box within with the new transformer (picture attached) or whether I need to be going to fuse board for anything, there seems to be a spot for bell transformer left blank (pic attached)?

ok not an electrician but the first thing i would be looking at is do you need to use the new transformer?

what voltage/amps is the existing one putting out and what voltage/amps is the new one.

Might be just a wiring job.

You have a trafo in the board

That's a standard 8v probably chime

What are u replacing the chime with ?

The ring doorbell type from memory require 24v straight to door(haven't fitted them)

You'll probably need a REC here

I did this recently, but got a REC in to replace it on the board, took about 5 minutes for them to do it safely.

Ring can definitely work on 16v (maybe even 12v for a few of the newer ones). Newer transformers will support multiple voltages, just mind to get a compatible bell chime if you're keeping it (Honeywell do a 8-16v model)
