Working as a teacher in Ireland with German „First State Examination“

    Hello everyone!

My family and I want to move to Ireland next year. I’ve studied post primary teaching and my subjects are chemistry, German language and history. In the last three years I worked as a not fully qualified teacher at a secondary school in Germany and taught German Language, chemistry, maths and arts. Since January 24 I’m a class teacher at a Montessori school and teach maths, German Language and other subjects.

    Problem:

I accomplished my First State Examination but didn’t finish my Second State Examination. So guess I don’t meet the standard requirements of the teaching council for post primary teaching, do I? But I have teaching experience of almost four years.

Do I have options to become a fully qualified teacher in Ireland while working as an unqualified teacher in Ireland?

It is our dream to settle down and start a new life in Ireland. We love this country and the people!

    Best wishes from Germany

    David

You need to be registered with the teaching council.

The best thing to do is to contact them and do that second examination.

You would need to decide which region you want to live in and then try to find out whether there are schools which teach German that are likely to have a vacancy. Unfortunately demand for languages is very fickle, and having your qualifications recognised is only part of the battle. I wish I had become fully qualified as something else instead.
