I am due to get solar panels installed by a well known solar panel company on 15th Jan. I paid the 7500 on 20th December by bank transfer. My name and the address of the property was on the transfer. They said they have no record if it. The bank Sat's the transfer was completed. The solar company asked me for proof of transfer. I have messaged Boi for proof of transfer. The company weren't helpful with this. I also used them for a previous solar installation and their work was good. However, I can't get into my solar app as the password needs yo be updated and only the company xwn do it, but despite asking them along with where my 7400 has gone, they haven't returned my call. I spoke to the bank.also about possibly recalling the money but they weren't sure I would definitely get it back. Has anyone been in this situation - any advice would be helpful

If you did a bank transfer, log into online banking and get a payment receipt from there for the supplier.

Thanks. I didn't know you could access payment receipts without a request to the bank. They requested the money to be transferred by bank transfer. I have bought new windows, kitchen etc via bank transfer and no issue. I agree though if they suddenly go bust that will be my 7.4k gone.

For 7.4k I would show up at their door with receipt and get it sorted asap.

Also if not on the FB solar group with 63k members, I would join and and name the company as this really seems to work well because of such a big following.

    Naming on boards isnt allowed.

Thats why most solar companies in Ireland only want bank transfers.

Thanks for all the c9mments. Apparently, the only way yo get proof of payment is to message BOI and it takes 2 days for them to get the ID reference. They said they would get their accounts dept to look in to it and ring me by close of business today but no call. Quite stressed about it all.

Brave with the bank transfers in this day and age, especially with Solar.

Useless government lets this sh1te carry on for years with companies closing and normal people screwed again.

I didn't realise I was being nieve with bank transfers, and especially so with solar. I just hope I get the 7.4k back.

Credit cards are best, as you have in built payment protection, but there's nothing inherently "wrong" with a bank transfer. Usually the reason why companies want a bank transfer is that CC companies charge a 1-2% merchant fee. So if it's €10K your forking over to a solar company, they are being stung for €100+ in charges. Same with any company that your paying for goods/services.

(To be clear - I'm not recommending that bank transfers are fine, only that a company requesting a bank transfer are not always doing it for nefarious reasons)
