Faulty Hot Water Tap

    Hi,

I purchased a hot water tap January 2024 last. Unfortunately the safety button that requires the user to press a button and hold the lever before boiling water comes through the tap, does not work anymore. It is like an ordinary tap now you just turn the lever and boiling water comes through the tap.

I contacted the retailer and they said that as it is not part of the section that boils the water(Tank) they will be unable to send out and engineer to look at it . Instead they said that I would have to return the tap to the retailer and they would send it to the Manufacturer to look at it and repair/replace as necessary. It would actually be easier for me to remove the boiler rather than the tap as it is easily accessed and easy to remove.

The problem i have with this is that

    (a) I would have to pay a plumber to take off the tap and separate it from the Boiler .

    (b) Return it to the retailer and wait for however long for it to be returned to me and then pay another plumber to install it again .

I dont think it would be a good idea for me to remove/replace the tap myself as I would be concerned that the retailer would say that as I removed the tap myself I caused the damage and the Guarantee would be nullified.

I was just wondering if I have any rights in requesting them to provide/pay for a plumber to remove/replace the tap.

    Regards

Did you purchase the item in a shop and just the item?

These are awkward cases; I have in the past been able to contact the manufacturer directly (sometimes send them a video showing the clear error) and worked it out with them (they could send a replacement tap which you could then install and disconnect the old tap to be sent away, they'll charge you for a new tap if you never send the broken one back, or may charge ahead and reimburse when the broken one gets to them). But it really depends on how good their customer service is.

Some shops would also do this (especially if they are the designated supplier in the country for a particular brand).

However, in these cases, I've been able to disconnect/reconnect myself and I'm unsure if you could be reimbursed for whatever the plumber costs.
