Illness Benefit

Why am I still being paid Jobseekers Allowance and not Illness Benefit? I should add that when I applied for Illness Benefit I still had an active Jobseekers Allowance. It was only 2 days ago that the social worker suspended my Jobseekers Allowance and it is still being paid instead of Illness Benefit. Also since 3rd December when I was awarded Illness Benefit I have still been paid Jobseekers Allowance. Why?

I thought you could only claim illness benefit if you were out sick from work.

Not sure what you mean, why - did you notify your local Intreo Office about your Illness Benefit application? What will be happening in the background is the Illness Benefit section will be requesting the information on your Jobseekers claim so they can deduct the amount you received after the application date and then pay you going forward. Unfortunately offices are really busy at the moment, I would give Illness Benefit a call to make sure this is being done.

A common mistake, anyone can claim illness benefit assuming they satisfy the PRSI qualifying conditions, it's based on contributions already paid by the applicant. Being in employment is not a qualifying condition. However depending on their earnings in the relevant tax year it may impact the weekly rate of payment received.

Yes, they know. Besides, it is a confirmation that I was granted sickness benefit.

That letter is automated there's thousands of IB customers. Be no harm to call them and see how it's progressing.

Now the Jobseekers is suspended though it indicates to me that Illness Benefit have requested the information regarding your claim but it's a case of whether the local office has sent it back now. It shouldn't take too long in any case.

Ok I understand and thank you for your answers. Can I ask for the phone number I need to call? Thank you.
