New season so time to open the spring thread.

Will we get an improvement from the previous two stinkers? Time will tell.

A mostly cloudy and dry start in Dublin 13 with any rain spreading southeast fizzling out.

A little hint of Spring this morning in Dublin. Not cold cold, was a little sunny and dare I say it, some heat in the sun!

Not too bad a morning in south Dublin- pretty grey but not cold which is grand.
A few days of warmth and blue sky would be nice.
At least I got my first cut of the grass done yesterday- poxy lawnmower broke though!

Two nice enjoyable Spring days. When it's dry, and no huge windchill, you're doing ok in early March. Land drying out a wee bit too.

100% agree. Yesterday was a very enjoyable Spring day. Dry, calm and mild. Great weather for walking, running, cycling and working outside. I lit a big fire to burn twigs and it was lovely just standing there. The birds are in overdrive now too.

On this day, 3rd March, in 1947

The lowest shaded air temperature for the month of March was recorded as -17.2 C in Markree, Co. Sligo

Lovely morning in Dublin. Looks like we're in for some days of nice calm weather. About as good as you can get at this time if year. Happy Spring everyone.

    I'd love a March with days like St. Patrick's Day 1990, March 1997, March 2003, March 2012.

I don't want to hear of snow mentioned until late November 2025! It's been a hard winter, personally, and I just want Spring 😊

A mild drizzly night. Bats are out again, first time I’ve heard them since late September.

Be careful there cluedo, you might end up in jail for burning branches 😄. I used to panic when I'd hear a helicopter in the sky. I have plenty of branches and ivy to burn after the storm. I think I'll do it on a cloudy day when the eye in the sky is obscured. Ridiculous law.

Yep, I usually hate this time of year as normally winter just seems to linger on forever, but the past week or so has been great and very much feels like what early spring should be like.

No such luck here in Sligo the past 2 days misty and short sharp bursts of rain at times with near gales and a wind chill of 7c. So a bit Baltic. When is this Windy crap supposed to end my wife asked me. September probably.

Overcast today. Some nice sunshine to the east of us. Saw a bee today, seems a little early but it’s mild I suppose

turns colder next week but will be mainly dry across the country with some night time frosts. We could be looking at a very dry March overall if high pressure persists or rebounds into second half of March.

Jesus what happened to Monday! Yesterday it was 14°c and sunny, today it's 8°c and cloudy!

Would be a nice change after the past two deluges. Both 2023 and 2024 were very wet, especially 2023 which was the wettest on national record.

Look what happened with February though in the south. It only takes one Atlantic dominated period these days it seems to make it all flip.

Fun Fact I didn't know this until today but Ireland is the 4th least sunny country in the entire planet, we are only beaten by Faroe Islands, Iceland and Saint Pierre. I well believe it. UK is 5th btw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,430 ✭✭✭pauldry

Donegal and Sligo must be up there with the Faroes. We had literally 1 or 2 hours of sun this WEEK!!

i love sligo and i visit there often but i could never live there because it has way worse weather than dublin. my other half did some of her training in sligo gen hospital and she reckons it rains constantly there. when the sun shines it's an amazing place though, and you often seem to get the best summer weather when it actually happens.

    Inland regions would be yes.

Claremorris, Mayo when it was recording sunshine was the dullest synoptic station in the entire world I believe with an average of around only 1070 hrs of sun per year, only 70 hrs more than Tórshavn in the Faroe Isles. Claremorris' sunniest year on record was an average modern year for Dublin Airport. It had just 235.9 hrs of sun in the entire summer 1980, an average of 2.6 hrs per day.
