Birds coming into the house.

In 19 years I have never had a bird come into the house. But within 7 days I have had a wren and a starling frantically flying around the house. I think they both came in the same window (We have the windows open a lot all year long) It could be a coincidence but I have a theory. The window has a coating of green algae around the outside of it that was never there before. (I am getting it cleaned soon) My theory is that this green surround is somehow confusing the poor things. Any ideas? The poor starling flew into a closed window in one of the bedrooms and needed a few minutes to recover and escape after I opened it. The wren just attached himself calmly to the same window and waited for me to let it out.
