I have converted a ford transit into a campervan, I have paid the vrt and I will be taxing and testing it on Friday. A few questions about insurance, can I be a named driver on my wife’s car to insure the van in my name. I have a 10 years no claims bonus and I am the insured person on the van commercially at the moment but now it will gave to be insured as a camper

Join http://motorcaravanclub.com/ they have a group membership where you dont need to be a named driver on another policy and whereby the van can be your main vehicle . i use it for my VW Transporter camper

There's only a few companies to try:

    Stuarts

    Dolmen

    Lhk

Stuarts long gone, absorbed into Arachas.ie now

350 for insured only, or 450 for open drive. Any age vehicle, any value up to 100K. Unlimited mileage.

Can't really go wrong with that.

I'm with dolmen, keep in mind they all get chances doing the minimum to their trade van to get cheap insurance and tax. Or dreamers who what to buy a flatbed truck ratchet strap a caravan down and call it a camper.

Email them, photos of the conversion, tell them you share a car with your wife and are names on the policy. You want the van for leisure, you have a clean driving record and won't be using the van for work/business. You work in an office is best too.

Can you use the Camper as your primary vehicle? Do you have to be a named driver on another policy ?

Nothing stopping anyone using their camper as their primary vehicle, it just can't be insured as your primary/only vehicle logically.

a relative done this for a couple of years but found no real savings by doing so, and have since moved to a standard broker, with the annual club fees and combined insurance costs, they found no savings, and no real benefit to joining the club

I have commercial vehicles so don't have a car policy. I've been a named driver on wife's policy for past 15years and my MH is insured with Dolmen. I previously had a policy through a club but changed as there was no benefits or cost savings.

you can be a named driver on another policy. The only thing I found out is you do not earn a no claims bonus on a camper but they also do t ask for any when insuring it.

actually looking in to doing this myself,

Had a transporter for last 4 years , also had a car but I was never insured with the caravan club.
how does it work, do you need 2 insurance policies? Or is it just with the caravan club? 450euro was the price I got off them to use the transporter as primary vehicle is cheap, if it’s only the one policy ?

also do you keep your no claims?
