Cat house (outdoor)

    hi guys.

We have two cats which are primarily outdoor; they have complete freedom to come in and out when they wish and in the evenings (around 6-7pm) we get them in for the night and have done so since they were kittens.

However, lately (past few months) one cat refuses to come in but will persistently howl at the door throughout the night unless we let them in. Couple that with the utility room being basically beyond entry because for whatever reason they’ve now decided the litter box isn’t worth using and peeing etc on the floor (and their own bed????) is the better option. Granted when I say this, we think it’s the male (Link) and not female (Zelda) doing that.

So at this stage to save my sanity and our health with a new baby on the way we have decided to transition to fully outdoor but I want to make sure they still have a warm and safe place to be at night time. We have a shed (wooden) that’s not being used for anything so the plan is after baby is born (when money is less of a problem)- to kit out the shed as a cattery basically.

We can’t continue to let them be in the utility room anymore with the filth and it’s not going to be acceptable with a new baby of course (and I don’t enjoy trying to do laundry while being blasted by cat piss). Clean it 2-3 times a day at the moment and it’s gotten to the stage where we’re feeling like a bloody cat hotel! Of course we don’t want any harm to come to either so we want to make sure they have a nice shelter for the time being. Any advice welcome!
