I've seen a lot of sentiment online about cancelling American holidays or at least deliberately avoiding the US due to the current US political situation. Just wondering if anyone here is thinking the same?

Obviously this thread is about people's travel plans. I don't intend it to be a discussion about the specifics of US politics.

I'm flying into Charlotte NC, and back from Las Vegas in september. I have been planning the trip for ages and the current political situtation doesen't bother me in the slightest.

Flying out to California for 10 days in 3 weeks time - 6 months planned and can't wait. Like the previous poster i couldn't give a hoot about their political situation.

I'm going later on this year. Politics doesn't bother me thankfully.

one thing to watch is that they are stepping up controls on people who potentially could be going out to work or move permanently on a tourist visa, eg loads of luggage for a few days spin or bringing a professional tattooing kit.

The benefit of travelling from Ireland though is that if you fail preclearance in Dublin or Shannon you just go home, as opposed to spending weeks in immigration detention in the USA pending deportation.

Posted in the other thread were people are worried about social media handles being asked for as part of ESTA ( think this was always optional)

Heading for a trip to the states in October, DC and Boston and I cant wait.

Have always wanted to visit the smithsonian air and space museum and the wife has always wanted to visit Boston so two birds with one stone, I do think America has altered in the last decade or so. the smell of Weed in NYC and Vegas has been awful but I still find it a fascinating place to visit, for sure doesnt have the culture of European city breaks but its very unique and each city I have visited I have enjoyed except for LA, wasnt a fan at all.

Loved LA. Mental part of the world.

    DC is great.

LA is HUGE - unrealistic to say you didn't like it - it's over 500 sq miles!

I think that visitors will notice a big difference in eating/drinking out and shopping. Prices have certainly increased.

Booked for next Halloween back in December and although I wouldn't book the trip now, we'll go ahead with it. Unless they find my "Trump is a c**t" messages in my WhatsApp.
