    Ooft.. what do we think?

    Introducing Ryanair Prime

Save on flights when you fly solo or with your Ryanair Prime companion on your myRyanair account.

    All from €79 per year.

    Your Ryanair Prime member benefits
    Exclusive Sales

Get exclusive discounts on flights through monthly sales, available only to Ryanair Prime members delivered directly to your email.*
    Reserve a seat
Choose where you sit for no extra cost in selected rows. Whether it’s the window, aisle or even middle you can reserve your seat for free.

*(Up to a maximum of 12 seats.)
    Travel Insurance
Annual coverage on flights, so you can fly with peace of mind on all of your flights with Ryanair.*

    More gouging unsurprisingly.

If they offered discounts on baggage, I'd have maybe considered as fly a couple of times a year.

Wonder if non-Prime customers will be getting shafted in the near future?

Are we sure someone didn't click the April fools button a bit early?

Might be worthwhile if you were flying with them every week. Otherwise just another joke attempt to fool the unwary, like their "priority boarding" scam which gives you zero benefits if you're prepared to be patient and wait until all the mugs have boarded the plane first.

Wizz have a membership (subscription) offer so this is hardly innovative. This probay will lead to higher fares for no lb-members as it allows them to segment their customers further. When it's Ryanair, nothimg is free. They even sell a cabin bag as free when you buy a Regular fare package over basic fare (with free cabin bag)

^ People are more likely to be utilizing "priority boarding" for the 10kg carry on rather than actually boarding first.

Priority boarding makes no sense anyways. Dave Gorman has a bit about it - am paraphrasing but essentially, the most comfortable part of travelling by plane is when you're outside the plane - either at the airport, gate etc - why would you want to then prioritize the uncomfortable part of sitting on the plane?

I mean finding space in overhead for a bag maybe but you've got assigned seats.. stop queuing for the sake of it.

    Waste of time

Not sure I follow that. You do not get a free 10kg bag with priority. You can have a 10kg bag without priority boarding., which is less than regular fare (priority plus 10kg cabin)

Regular fare is just Ryanair bundling two things together to maximise fare revenue (selling priority with 10kg cabin) before the baggage page.

Priority boarding is just a waste of time and money

Priority boarding allows you take a 10Kg bag. If you have such a bag then this is of value.

"Priority Boarding" per Ryanair includes the 2 bags - underseat and 10kg carry on.

You can do a 10kg carry on separately of course but most people just go for "Priority" as it's the most prevalent when booking.

I don't believe you can book priority boarding on Ryanair without the 10kg carry on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 322 ✭✭watchclocker

Regular fare gives you priority boarding + 10kg carry on + seat choice

Priority boarding add on gives you priority boarding + 10kg carry on

You can add a 10kg check in separately (and usually far cheaper), you cannot add a 10kg carry on without thr priority boarding part

I've never queued to get on a plane. I sit down and wait until the queue ends and then board as the last, or one of the last passengers. I always sit in the first aisle seat I happen upon - whether it's mine or not!

But I do understand the logic of those that queue. They want their bag in the bin above their head. Queuing is the best way to guarantee this. I travel light and always just stash my bag under the seat in front.

    Amen brother!

Love sitting in Knock Airport watching people queue while supping a pint and waiting until I hear "Final Boarding Call" and the queue is 20 - 30 people tops before moving anywhere.

More often than not.. even on full flights, the cabin crew will find a place for your bag. Often not above your seat obviously.. just hope it's not the opposite direction from where you plan to disembark. Getting up the plane against flow of traffic is pretty much a no-go unless you jump out your seat once landed and seatbelt light is off.

    Posted in the Travel thread:

Very unimaginative name. Or are they hoping a year from now they can send an email out to each subscriber saying "Your Prime membership is about to expire unless you renew now", and most people will panic thinking it's their Amazon prime membership and click renew without looking at the livery or email address?

I'm not really seeing any major benefits from it to be honest.

    Free travel insurance

I'm always dubious when free travel insurance is added as part of a benefit(Apparently I have it with my Revolut Metal). And I'd be very dubious of what is in the small print of free travel insurance being provided by Ryanair*.

*does not apply to flights on Ryanair.

That is correct .I never said you could by the way. Your post actually confirms what I said, in that Ryanair have it set up that people are buying something of very little value, this increases revenue for Ryanair. Passengers paying to queue up, then maybe queue the other side of the gate as well. There is nothing priority about priority boarding

Took that to be a bit of humour ...like the Ryanair terms and conditions which state " we will never be liable, ever ...".😄

    Prime Insurance T&C

    A pretty basic policy.

If you read that on the desktop it's meant to look like small font ( small print) so yes it was humorous. Now reading on mobile, I see it's actually in bold. Not how I intended it to be rendered.

My point was, I would half expect for free travel insurance from Ryanair to have a caveat of it only applies when traveling on a train. Or not valid in the EU.

If you are travelling with a young family you need priority boarding to chose your seats so that you all sit together.

I get free annual travel insurance from Aviva by having car and house insurance with them and enjoy playing Ryanair roulette to get my seat for free (and on average, I would say I end up with a better free seat because people who pay for seats tend to buy the cheaper ones). I'll hazard a guess (and take the risk) that the "exclusive"sales are of little value. But there will always be some people who will go for it, and that's fine too.

Or not - just explain to the children how things work and leave them to "sit back and relax and enjoy the flight" on their own. Worked fine for all of my children, who all grew up to be great independent travellers.

If you're traveling with young family, you would be better checking in a bag and adding seats separately

Airports are the worst part of travelling not the airplane, on that you are moving. All airports are malls that are out to get every cent from the passengers. Airports rarely have enough free seats and the all the shops are expensive.

Another revenue grab, nothing more. Like others above, I never pay for priority boarding anymore. Woke up to that scam a long time ago.

As it happens, I am in Germany for a family medical emergency right now. Thankfully everything fine. But needed to travel over yesterday with zero notice. Did a quick search and found a flight to Munich for 60 euro that left in 6 hours! It was with Lufthansa.

Holy s@#%! The differences! 8 kg bag plus a small bag for free. Then ignored paying for seats as we were immediately checking in anyway. Two seats together. Happy days.

They have zoned boarding and priority boarding (free) for those with kids or mobility issues. Basically just walked on to plane, via an airbridge, straight away.

On board handed a free bottle of water and some chocolate. Food and drinks on board were very reasonably priced, but very limited. And lastly they also passed through the plane with little toys for kids, a lovely touch.

I thought the days of travelling on a plane where you feel like a guest rather than livestock were over. Honestly it was a lovely experience on a very stressful day. And only 60 euro each. Incredible.

I completely agree. The same happened to us recently with KLM. We used to fly always with Ryanair, for decades and many flights a year. Until recently that we realized that flying with KLM via Amsterdam, we would save 500 EUR, flying the same days. They treat you properly as a passenger, give you a sandwich + wine or beer, drinks, and the same perks that you mentioned with Lufthansa. Plus it was much cheaper than Ryanair, never mind the extra 35 EUR per person and flights for 10Kg carry on baggage. We decided to never fly again with Ryanair now and search for other options. Unless Ryanair changes, probably they will be losing more and more customers, although they have quite a monopoly in many countries.

About Ryanair Prime membership, it seems like a joke. Absolutely not worth it.

Same name as Edreams travel, but they offer something more:

Great for frequent travellers, I do about 30/40 Ryanair a year so it's potentially useful for me. It's hardly price gouging when it's a totally optional extra that we are free to choose or ignore.

Different people want different things from their travel, I only care about getting there for cheap and getting there on time. Other people prefer toys, drinks, papers etc. Luckily we have that choice.

Remember when they had a big group bookings fanfare which then turned out to be more expensive that booking on the fly. Same will prob happen here. Unfortunately you can't trust that any ryanair initiative is anything other than money gouging.

Hoy smoke ..€60 to Munich OW with any airline is a bargain, but with Lufthansa at last minute even more so. Munich is more expensive than Zurich.

Hope all turns out ok on the family medical issue.

You don't need to have priority to book seats together, you can choose seats (at a a cost) even with "Basic" fare as you can see below, then just add bags on for cheaper afterwards.
