Going by the IT she's still a MetE employee too, she's just not doing the TV presentation anymore.

Joanna wasn't happy being only a weather presenter - she wanted to be a celebrity in every sense which resulted in her courting the media at every opportunity which made her lose credibility in my eyes. I didn't want to see the inside of her home, or hear about her insomnia or her family etc.

Best of luck to her for the future but I for one don't want want to see her back on our screens. I liked her forecasts but I didn't like her personality - she came across as an annoying attention seeker.

It's only one person though - Borntobywilde. And he's so desperate for attention that he's even leaving out words.

Everyone else is being totally fair imo.

    I'm mint.

Yeah the anger from certain nutjobs is just bonkers. This thread is refreshing apart from one troll. Probably because Weather is a nice forum.

He knows that there is of course no policy of discrimination against attractive women in the recruitment of weather forecasters. 😊

Met Éireann recruits actual meteorologists though - such a shame they might not all look hot enough, because THAT's what's important.

Enjoy the retirement Joanna if you are reading this.

Don't worry about the negativity, if you work in or for RTE and show some flair and talent there'll be knives out for you around here particularly if you are female.

To my untrained eye it reads like someone mentioned she might be getting above her station, but because she sees herself as above her station she got annoyed and left.

Appearances on the LLS and DWTS will do that, though I always enjoyed her forecasts and sad to see her go.

And as a couple have already pointed out, it's farewell, annoying thread title.

I wish Joanna all the best. I liked her as a person. But I felt her manner wasn’t professional enough for the weather forecast. She was all over the place, a bit too flippant maybe. Sometimes i wasn’t sure what the forecast was, after it was over.
As for what the forecasters look like, and their order in the ranks of attractiveness… no one seems to have any opinion on Gerry Murphy. Strange 😏.

Often at the end of Joanna's forecast I would be asking myself "so what is the weather going to be like tomorrow" as I frantically scanned those 4 charts before they disappeared off the screen! There was too much chatter and jokes and jumping from explaining something to another unrelated point …………..people just want the weather, not to be entertained.

Always enjoyed her forecasts and coming across a little mischievous, much prefer that to a monotonous forecasts.

She is married to Horst who is high up in Irish meteorology. They are not short of a few bob.

best of luck to Joanna whatever she to next. I’m glad to see she is still with met.ie. I know our style can be I always have been her biggest fan, there’s no denying her enthusiasm. I think sometimes she was so enthusiastic that she wanted to impact some of her knowledge and I really liked that. It did cause the forecast to Maybe so far as a result. She seems like a very nice lady and it’s nice to see somebody unafraid to let their true personality show. I do feel sorry if she felt she had to leave due to some issues behind the scenes. I think everybody does their job differently and she’s larger than life and there’s nothing wrong with that. That being said I haven’t followed her any of the social media outlets. I am primarily interested in her as a presenter and meteorologist. Anyway, best of luck, Joanna.

I enjoyed Joanna's forecasts, even from her early days I recall when 'musician/artist' Prince bought the farm she ended one forecast soon after his demise "…..plenty of bad weather in store for tomorrow but no purple rain"

A bit quirky (in a nice way), easy to understand, clear words, sensible terminology and always delivered with a gentle smile. I would have put her near the top of the female Irish weather presenters with sr at the bottom.

I'm an oul'wan, and I think all the weather women are, as Fr Ted might have said, lovely girls!! Joanna wasn't my favourite because she often presented with her hands in her pockets which in my old fashioned view is unprofessional. My own favourites are Gerry, Trevor, and Mark, all lovely lads!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭dairyedge

Undoubtedly the worst weather presenter I have seen across all stations, both on television and radio.

"… no one seems to have any opinion on Gerry Murphy. Strange 😏."

Maybe because he delivers a very professional presentation with no drama, no slip-ups or stumbles.

I always considered Gerry a very competent presenter with a pleasant easygoing style and he doesn't give much cause for adverse or negative comments.

that would annoy me. You’re not there to crack jokes or be a personality.

The best of the bunch! Professional, competent, articulate, understated and his forecasts are always well structured, logical and a pleasure to listen to.

I suspect that she'll be delighted with that story. Keeps her in the limelight, which appears to matter to her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 694 ✭✭✭StormForce13

Actually she's married to Harm Luijkx who is another Met Eireann employee.

Harm seems grand, although I sometimes found his radio forecasts hard to follow because of his strong Dutch accent.

I wonder if she wanted to get involved in more non Weather related stuff (another reality show or something) and she wasn’t allowed. Or maybe she wanted extended leave to further build her profile. Someone has stopped her gallop and she’s not happy.

I always felt Gerry Murphy was the natural successor to Gerry Fleming and he was definitely a legend!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 977 ✭✭✭mykrodot

Ah yes the two Gerry's , both of them lovely true Irish men, genuine, softly spoken, good at the weather, no big song and dance. Both legends.

Joanna was a breath of fresh air. She did her job, she did it well & that’s more than can be said of someothers in the Glasnevin Pyramid. All the very best to you Joanna. Good luck in your future endeavours.

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

Joanna used read here and I’ll miss her tv forecasts

Her forecasts were always warm(and homely) even if it was blizzards or near hurricanes she had to deliver

No idea about this but life flies by and some people don't want to stay bound to the one profession/work environment too long and want to try other things. Could be the reason.

    Best of luck to her.
