    Hi,
Just wondering if getting a vat number is done after the company is registered or during the registration process ?

To register for tax either VAT, CT or PAYE is done with Revenue Commissioners, whereas registeration for a company itself is thru Companies Registration Office. This means a company must apply for tax registration if only one needs to. Most business will have to do this except cases like charity, non-trading company etc. Again, company must be registered before registering for taxes.

Plus, one needs not to be a company to register for VAT, any can do eg. individual and partnership.

Once the company has been formed, you should receive your Certificate of Incorporation at which time you can apply for registration for taxes using a form TR2 which can be downloaded from the forms section of http://www.revenue.ie
