I'm thinking of Buying a mobile on the 3 network in Uk when I'm there for Xmas, but am wondering this:
    • If i bought it, can it be unlocked?
    • If so, can you put a Vodafone RTG SIM card in it?
    • Is there any special logos on the phones menus?

If anyone could answer these questions, I would be grateful. ;)

Yes but it will only work on the voda 2G network.

So that would mean I'd have to get a Voda 3G SIM: How do you do that without a 3G phone?

Only postpaid 3G SIMs exist. There are reports on boards of some getting shops to do a SIM swap from 2G to 3G, have a read and ask those that have done it where they went.

As a matter of interest, what type of phone are you looking at?

    Not really.
Its just that there are a good few new ones coming out over there at the moment, so just be careful which one you buy as a lot of them will not have an unlock solution for a while.....
The NEC's are out a long time now and the unlock solution only hit the market 2 weeks ago!

    [*]LG U8110

I don't think the LG U8110 is for sale any more. The LG U8120 is only sold on contract AFAIK.

The NEC phones can be unlocked.

Hey there. A friend of mine sent me an NEC e313 from the UK. I've had a good look around but cant find any info on getting it fully unlocked. Can any of you guys throw a little help my way? Places in dublin city that do it or web sites that might help?

    Cheers

There is a company in Dublin who offer this service, but their name was banned from the forums a while back and I do not know if I can mention them, so I will send it by PM....
