Maybe we should elect more responsible leaders?

Not just 'should' we elect more responsible leaders (I try not to use the word, should, but... ah well), but how about also CHANGING OUR GOVERNMENT SYSTEM?

I talked with a man from Switzerland a couple of years back. He was dead proud of their system. Seems they've no 'real' President, just someone to shake hands with visitors from other countries, and this 'job' rotates every year between the Ministers. Instead of a President, they, the people, 8 million of them, get to vote four times a year on any issue that the people have collected 50,000 signatures on in protest at a decision by the government of the day.

What this had led to for hundreds of years, he says, is no radical decisions by any government. No government can get away with massively unpopular decisions--at least not till the people have had a proper debate and think about it. The man I was talking with says he honestly feels HE is the President, along with everyone else, and he's dead proud of that.

    I'd love it!
