To remove some confusion, that won the '95 best picture oscar is Braveheart, now who was the actor in the title role

    HERE'S A LONG SHOT

Angus Macfadyen plays Robert the Bruce , It is this character that narrates the story , a claim supported by John Gay in his article " why the main character in braveheart is not William Wallace "

PS NEVER SAY HE WON OSCAR

I have already said the film was braveheart (which won best picture), I never mentioned best actor or suggested they did.
Mel Gibson played the lead character, not the title character.

Right answer, wrong reason. But you still get the points.:D

William Wallace is the main character as the story is based around his life. The title character was Braveheart, (as in who played braveheart?). But its is a common misconception that "Braveheart" is a nickname for Wallace. Not true, Braveheart is a reference to Robert De Bruce, and his death. Hense De Bruce was the title character (not because he was narrator, but because Braveheart is a reference to him that dates back to his death)

ps, I never said he won an oscar. I said the film did.
