XP Laptop with Service Pack 2 cannot connect on Port 80

XP Laptop, Service pack 2, Windows firewall is off - makes no difference if I turn it on and specify Internet on port 80 as an exception .
Can send/receive data from the Network - shared drives/Printers etc
Can nslookup, tracert & ping to any website
Cannot telnet on port 80 to any website - error - 'Could not open connection to host on port 80. Connection failed'
Mozilla, Internet Explorer & netscape will not connect to Internet
Norton Internet Security was installed, I've since uninstalled
Same IP & Internet settings as the other five pc's in the Workgroup - all others can connect on port 80 fine
No spyware or viruses on the laptop

Anyone got any ideas how to resolve??

    Thanks

could be corrupt winsock settings in the reg

export these 2 from a working machine and import them on the bad one

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/Winsock
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/Winsock2

    Is the firewall completely disabled?

You can disable it on one connection (eg LAN) but not another (internet).

network connections, your internet connection, right click > properties, advanced (iirc).

reinstall TCP/IP may be an option.
    Not straight forward in XP
start >> run >> cmd, OK >> in dos prompt type in

    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

where resetlog.txt is any filename you want for your log file.

I tried exporting those registry keys from a working XP laptop but it made no difference.

I also ran the netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt command and it made no difference - still cannot connect to the net or telnet on Port 80

Is an XP reinstall my only option??

try dialling up to the internet as a test.
if you stil cant get a website then try removing EVERY bit of software from your pc
can you system restore to before sp2?

if still nothing working id be going for a reinstall, itll take about an hour rather than troubleshooting for days.
