I'll have to nominate Guns n Roses doing the Stones' "Sympathy For The Devil".

Slash kinda goes insane with the guitar towards the end...superb.

    Rob.

Phish - Brain Damage (Pink Floyd)
Pearl Jam - Sunday Bloody Sunday (U2)
Creed - Roadhouse Blues (The Doors)

I hate Creed but is quite a good version all the same wink.gif

    Motorhead's "Louie Louie" - madness curlydav.gif

Maybe Metallica's version of the Imperial March (from Star Wars) with the Orchestra. Really well done.

My old band used to do a fairly insane cover of "Twist and Shout" - picture it: Our rhythm guitar player (who couldn't sing a note) sang it. I played guitar (as fast and heavy as I could) and the result? well, it was a bit strange really... Good laugh though - the crowd liked it.

    All the best,

...which has also been nominated in the 'worst cover version' list wink.gif

I'd like to add G'n'R's version of Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and both Thin Lizzy and Metallica's versions of "Whiskey in the Jar" (for the Lizzy's one is technically a cover)

I think Travis' cover of Brittany Spears "Hit me babby one more time" is always funny.

Marriane Faithful did a great version of Lennon's Working Class Hero, and Whipping Boy's take on Lou Read's Caroline Says Part II is second to none.
Also saw John Cale do a version of Cohens Hallelujah at his recent vicar st gig. It put the crimanally overated jeff buckley to shame. A song about looking back over life can't be done justice by someone in their 20's

    Honestly guys...
Try Dimmu Borgir's Burn In Hell... It's utterly fantastic!
A thundering anthem if there ever was one. And IMHO better than the original.

I nominate Cradle of Filth - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Iron Maiden originally)

An absolutley astounding cover and IMO better than the original eek.gif.

Smashing Pumpkins - Dancing in the Moonlight.
    (Thin Lizzy)
Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide. (Fleetwood Mac)

And I know it's not really a cover version but the version Ray Davies and Damon Albarn did of Waterloo Sunset on The White Room a few years back has to be one of the most heartfelt performances I've ever heard.

James Dean Bradfield - Last Christmas (Wham)
    The Frames - Debaser (Pixies)
Jimi - All Along The Watchtower (Dylan)

WWman, have you heard Stevie Ray Vaughns version of Little Wing? Thats my nomination for best cover of all time. i never thought id hear something that outdoes hendrix, but this does.
I bought talk on corners just for the cover, and boy does it suck frown.gif
edit: err, i bought it for the cover of little wing, not the pictures on the cover like, ahem.
