I am going to look at one of these at the weekend? Any known issues that I should look out for? Like rust...where? The timing belt has just been replaced and it has an NCT 'til 08/06.
    Mileage is 76k

They are fairly good as regards rust - try to make sure it hasn't been crashed as they don't suffer it well. Review the NCT results and watch for smoky engine, poor brake feel and dodgy electrics - switch everything on and off a few times to make sure it works properly. At 76k I'd expect the shocks, bushings and steering to be getting soggy, and the upholstery to be getting grubby - some of the Ghias had a faux-walnut dash insert that looks like barf but I'm picky about cr4p like that.

Otherwise the usual stuff applies - check its cold before you start it, allow it to warm up and watch the cooling fan is cutting in and out. Check all the panel gaps and don't pay more than €1,475 for it....

A friend of mine has a 97 Escort Ghia. A grand machine for the most part. Not the most economical of 1.4L engines though (CVH). The only thing he had to replace is the clutch cable mechanism (snapped in the middle of town one day ) The front fog assemblies like to fill up with water too.

Happened to both mine alright....jus drilled a hole in the bottom of the cover, small enough that water won't get in but it will drain out....problem solved
