At tonight's AGM, by 235 votes to 201 votes, Tommy Lyons defeated Collie Maher for the position of chairman of Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club in Dublin. Over the past 18 months there had been trouble in the club over the promotion of hurling and football in the club which at one point saw a split. Much of this has been cleared up now. The outgoing chairman, Liam Flaherty, made particular references to it in his address and expressed a wish that the club would move forward now. Tonight's election did feature a football man against a hurling man, but before the vote both men expressed their desire for the club to work together for both games into the future and both men repeated this after the result. The AGM also passed a motion in support of changing Rule 42 and allowing other sports to be played in Croke Park.
