Well, do you think anybody has managed to improve on the original version of a song? or come close?

In my opinion, Blue Monday by Orgy was an improvement and Metallica managed a decent effort of Whisky in the Jar

MegaDeths version of Paranoid ain't half bad.

you know Steppenwolf, "Magic Carpet Ride"...
who was it again that done the cover for Pulp Fiction?
I cant think of the name right now, but I reckon i am the only person in the world to think that the cover was really really good

IMHO the chillis are THE most overrated band in the world. I havent liked anything theyve done since that cover of Higher Ground (which isnt as good as the Stevie Wonder version mind).
Im not an All Saints fan, but i just prefer the version. I also know this opinion inspires incredulous reactions, i dont air it often smile.gif

Incidently there has been some pretty cool 'Punk' covers of really lame songs like

    MxPx - Take on me
    Weezer - Uptown Girl
    Goldfinger - Rio

I wouldn't say they were the best covers of all time though, me thinks that Gomez did a great cover of 'Getting Better' by The Beatles, classic song.
