I know its only a few hours but theres some good preview clips of tonights episode up on Yahoo: http://tv.yahoo.com/feature/lost.html

Does anyone else think that more Irish people are going to end up watching Lost on C4/E4 than on RTE?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

    more than likely

it seems to happen with most of their shows but thats usually about their lousy scheduling
any idea when c4 is starting it?

ps my postman is currently "running" to my house at 104.5 kps :-)

They're starting it alongside E4.. and Big Brother is running for an extra week this year.. so i expect mid to late August.

Considering this.. i'd be suprised if Irish viewer's waited til then to watch it.

I'm dying to get home from college and watch this...

let's hope the mailman has delivered my package... there were over 3,000 mailmen carrying it this morning iirc

The postman analogy is getting old!

Whatcha say we start it fresh with a new term... "the carrier bird"?!

Just saw an ad saying that its coming to RTE2 and that they'll be showing the double episode pilot.

Thanks Madrab for trying to help. Sorry about your postman.

Just watched ep 21. Great to have it back

Good to see the guy they brought in with the Cypres Audio in season 2 of 24 in Sayid's flashback.

Good episode all round. No real revalations other than
Locke revealing he was the one who sabotaged Sayid's transmitter

Can't wait till next week now...

yeah good ep but i was hoping for a bit more

guess ill have to wait till next week

Going to spoilerify this one just in case, as it's quite soon after broadcast.

    Ep 21,
    "The Greater Good"
Not much revealed about the wider mysteries, though that didn't stop this one being quite enjoyable, thanks mostly to Sayid's interesting flashback. So he does know Nadia/Noor is still alive... He certainly didn't give that impression to me back in ep 9 during his conversations with Rosseau. Will have to rewatch those scenes.

Sayid wound up on the wrong flight out of dedication to his dead friend - fate at work again. I would've thought the CIA should have given him more than "walking around" money after what he went through for them. As it stands, he found out where Nadia is, and as important as that is for him, it's still not great that the CIA weren't willing to compensate their undercover 'agent' a bit better than that.

Locke was responsible for hitting Sayid - make sense, I suppose. He did have a connection to the island from his encounter with the monster in "Walkabout" and the return of his legs, so he didn't want to leave. He seemed to become more selfish, and 'possessed' by the island after discovering the hatch, though.

Given the title of the episode, to what extent did he ensure they didn't leave for "the greater good" of everyone. He told Charlie in ep 7 that "the island can help you - but you have to give it something back in return." He's obviously not impressed by the attempts to sail away on Raft II. If I were any of the others, I'd certainly expect he was the one who burned the raft after ruining their earlier chance to leave.

I'm glad Sayid insisted on seeing the hatch. This is something the producers have stretched out half a season, and they're obviously keeping its secrets for the end of the season. We should probably get some answers on this one soon, though. If it ran over the summer cliffhanger, I think that'd be a mistake.

Enjoyed Charlie and Sawyer's babysitting of Turnip Head. In fact, almost everyone had a chance to do something in this episode - the cast aren't normally so well served.

No real crossovers to other characters/previously known events, save Sayid spotting Locke's scar and Sayid's own backstory with Nadia. I thought this episode would include Sayid telling Shannon or agonising over telling Shannon why he was on the plane, but given how things turned out, those two look like they're on hold for a while.

(Which reminds me - I hope Shannon gave back the key to the gun case. It must've been left unopen after she went after Locke. Also, look how it always seems to rain whenever these gun confrontations take place. More dramatic, I suppose. Or maybe the weather reflects mood on the island as well.)

Over all, pretty good, even if little island material was furthered. Now it looks like *next* week before we'll get some answers.

Gotta resist reading spoiler tags... can't see episode til after work! Cheers for the consideration doh.ie and steveland? with the spoiler tags!

My God... i'd love to be paid for watching 'Lost'!!

Anyways.. will post my opinion at some point tonight!

No worries, Basquille. Will be interesting to hear what you think. Do resist - nothing too exciting in there anyway.

On a late day at work today, so I caught it this afternoon; otherwise would've had to wait myself. The anticipation can be agonising - imagine how we'll be in the run up to the two-hour finale!

If I hear any reports of someone rushing home at the speed of light through the streets of a North-West town, though, I'll know it's you...!

This is great news - I've long thought it worked stronger as a two-hour pilot (90-mins). There's something about leaving this group for the first time at "Guys, where are we?" over the sight of the pilot in the tree. Just more powerful, and more compelling (by the end of the second, we also know about Kate - the marshal going, "She's dangerous!").

I hope RTE hype the hell out of this - more people probably will kick off on RTE, simply because E4 are going to take forever to start it. I'd like to think there'll be RTE Guide covers, lots of decent promos and write-ups in newspapers and magazines, but it all depends on how much RTE are going to want to push it.

I hope they've taken note of how successful it was abroad (the first promo does mention it being a hit in other countries), and try and get as many people to tune in, as they did with Desperate Housewives. They need to try to sell it as a mainstream series to begin with, without any hint of it being a 'genre' show or sci-fi/fantasy (which it only is in part). If they push the 'monster' element too much, it might turn some viewers off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,054 ✭✭✭✭Basq

I agree with all that doh.ie! Especially about the pilot being shown all in one part.. as it always should have been.

I'm also wondering will there be a new Lost dedicated thread here on Boards for the uninitiated after the first few airings on RTE, considering they can't really post here in here with spoilers and all.

Definitely. Will be hard to read the posts in there and not go, "Ah, but wait a few weeks, and that'll make sense..."

Another reason why RTE should've started on this sooner - anyone keen to know what's coming next who hasn't the discipline to avoid spoilers will be able to find out every single bloody thing right the way to the end of the season from any number of sites and this thread!

We're less likely to, cos we know we're close to the end, and some of us never touch spoilers. But I can see some big revelations being spoiled by people who'll be talking about the show and suddenly someone'll go, "Oh, I read Kate robbed a bank..." or "Locke was disabled..."

Well enjoyed this one, although that damned carrier bird must've been getting tired towards the end of his journey - he really had to struggle to carry the package for the last few pieces.
I felt Sayid's second story was more interesting than the first. Although I still think, when I hear of Nadia, that Sayid is going to turn up in APO HQ and meet Bristow and Co. :) There's a nice element of tragedy and I really liked the bit where Sayid chose to change his flight to the doomed 815 flight - just sat well with me.

TurnipHead - heh. Anyone wanna bet that she names the baby Boone?

I thought Terry O'Quinn was excellent this week - he seemed so unsure, for once, when trying to explain himself at Boone's funeral. Shannon's revenge on him was a little cliched but her character was on good form otherwise, so I won't complain. And Locke hitting Sayid - well I always figured it was Locke so no real surprise but it might be interesting to see what he does when they attempt to leave the island in the finale (I assume that's what we'll see).

Looking forward to next week - surely we'll get answers? And see what the light in the hatch means?

They need a really strong advertising campaign to get people to watch the pilot, because if they can't get the viewers to tune into that, then most people will not tune in after this and start watching it. Its not like friends were you can just miss an episode and not have missed that much. The type of advertising that sky did for 24 is whats needed otherwise it will be regulated to a friday night slot like 24 is now.
I really hope it takes of and can't wait to get home from work to watch it. Its pretty handy this misterious bird flys past my work and dropped it of for me. He absolutely flew here as well in less than 15 mins.

That's weird. Either your bird-hutch wasn't able to connect to bird-seeds with the final package pieces, or you had some overcrowded sky issues. Do you normally manage to fill the cage with birds (i.e. max out your, er, view of the sky... this analogy is getting difficult)? Cos if not, you might need your bird forwarded to the local seaport (well, the other way around - shorter distance and all). Otherwise, most of his feathers tend to miss the...

Oh, for crying out loud...! :) Your ports might not be forwarded correctly. For a popular one like this, it should come in in less than an hour, easily, and max out your connection to the limit you set it to as well. Certainly shouldn't be struggling at anything under 30k/sec.

Just thinking now that Walt is scared of Locke (when he saw him covered in blood)... it'll be interesting to see what effect this has on Locke and his connection with the island since there seems to be a connection between Walt and the island too

This is a really good point.
There is a sense given that Locke knows Walt's abilities and his relationship with the island. He appears keen to nuture Walt's 'talents'. Now that the group is turning against Locke, it'll be interesting to see how he'll deal with a breaking of his bond with Walt, especially if the island favours Walt over Locke.

Madrab - yeah, it was pretty bad. Sorry!

OK... my view on Episode 21 - The Greater Good:

I'm afraid i'm gonna resort to using spoiler tags for now as there's a spate of newbie's creeping round who really shouldn't be reading Page 22 of a 'Lost' thread considering it's only starting in a fortnight on 'Poverty 2' (loved that, doh.ie).
OK... when Lost 1X21 started, i actually somewhat forgot where we left off. Maybe it was the fact that it opened with a scene way back in the season where a couple of the group went about their dealings with the transciever.

Then i remembered the plane falling from the cliff and Boone's death etc. And of course, how could i forget Jack's final line in 1X20 - "to find John Locke!"

Anyways, onto the actual episode... maybe it was that we have had a couple of weeks without 'Lost' but it was another excellent episode (..which begs the question: how can they live up to this season with a second season, or even an adequate season finale? Damon and JJ really have to pull something amazing to finish this season..).

Anyways, getting a bit sidetracked here... i definantly enjoyed the episode more than Sayid's first episode with him being captured by Rousseau, and his backstory with Nadia.

The only real revelation was, as mentioned, Locke admitting he was the one who hit Sayid on the back of the head when pinpointing the source of the transmission.

The last 20 minutes of the episode were truly excellent though. It had so many highlights:
    - the showdown between Shannon and Locke in the jungle
    - the look of hate in Jack's eyes towards Locke when leaving that scene
    - Sayid's decision to change his flight to the doomed Oceanic Flight 815, ultimately meaning he may never get that opportunity to meet Nadia again.
    - Sayid asking John to take him to the hatch... knowing well his hatch excuse at the plane was complete BS.

Probably my favourite bit of the episode was Boone's funeral / burial. Sayid started to talk and then all of a sudden from the background, we hear 'it was my fault!" and it's revealed Locke had returned. Pardon the lame expression but my heart jumped into my mouth at that moment.. knowing he returned regardless of everything that had happened. I actually assumed Locke would be out for practically the remainder of the season and would be brought back in the finale for a cliffhanger.

Enjoyed the comic relief of Charlie minding 'Turnip Head' and the return of 'steamrolled Harry Potter'! Love those glasses! :D

Anyways, excellent episode. Can't wait til next week. And best of all, no more breaks / hiatuses. Straight run through til the end of the season..

What are we gonna watch for the Summer?!

Isn't Terry always brillant though? I said it once and i'll say it again! All the cast in 'Lost' are excellent but Terry as Locke is a standout star, in my opinion! Absolute genius!

    The promo below shows
Walt pleading with Locke not to open the hatch so could Walt be possibly jealous / angry that Locke didn't share the location of the hatch with him? But then again.. if Walt presumes danger is inside it, then he may already know about it and the contents that lie within........... can't wait for next week now

Dear God.... i love those 'Lost' rambles. I think i could probably fill books with my views on what's happened so far this season.

PS - as usual, the promo for next week available here

PPS - seems like my bird carrier analogy has "taken off"....... no pun intended!....... OK, pun intended!! :D

Yo. Poverty 2 wasn't mine, Tinkerbell did it first. Basquille's right, you really shouldn't read any of the posts here, Tinkerbell, but we'll all pop into the RTE thread when the show starts and see what the newbies think.

I normally don't look at the promos until after the episode, but my impatience with
hatch developments this week got the better of me! I love the "Don't open it!" line - fantastic potential here. Seems Walt or unknown to him, his abilities, is very much tied into the island/monster/wider mysteries. Locke's motives are becoming unclear - he very much wanted the hatch to be a secret, and yet now he has no choice but to show the others. If he has the ability to open it, something the others do not know, why wouldn't he just say "I don't know how to get in."

Anyway, shouldn't be speculating based purely on a promo, but you're right, Basquille, thank God there are no more breaks. I need to know more now... Plus, I reckon as good as the show has been all season, that high quality will be far surpassed by what they've got in store for us in the final three.

    Something confuses me:
After I think Boones death, Lock was on top of the hatch, and then a light came out of it. Where the **** did that go? It had to be a person hearing him. What did he see inside? That seemed to just go nowhere.

As for the raft, I can see it taking off, then coming back in the next episode. It doesnt look like it will take off untill the season finale though, so maybe it wont be coming back untill the next season.

    Future episode spoilers
SpoilerFix say that three men and a child get on the raft. So I doubt it will be Claires baby because Claire isnt there. Walts there, so his dad must be too. Sawyer is on it because Kate isnt, that just leaves Jin.

There has to be something to do with the disease in that hatch. Walt warns Locke not to open it for good reason. Anyway no point in guessing, you just cant with this show.

Well deserved awards for Lost there.

That was at the end of 'Deux Ex Machina'... which was when the
incident with the plane happened. Locke left Boone at the cave and left him there.

And note that last night's episode was the first time we have seen Locke appear since that light occured inside the hatch and he left Boone in the cave to ultimately die.

He was away for a full episode... who knows what happened the time he was away. He was more than likely at the hatch while absent though, as that hatch scene was the last scene in Deux Ex Machina (and as mentioned, last time we've seen him before last night's episode).

Regarding your comment regarding that the hatch-light incident seemed to go nowhere, this is 'Lost' here!... you should understand by now that we don't always get answers in a sequential order. Answers will be (hopefully) given in due time. Possibly expect a reason for the light next episode!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

mike (walts dad) collapses in the promo, possibly something to do with walt not wanting the hatch to be opened?

    Remember aswell though
that Locke's also seen what's in the woods when he was attacked by it. We still haven't gotten an answer for that but Locke seemed different after it. As ixoy mentioned earlier Locke seems more unsure now when he returned from the hatch. So I'd say that something happened with Locke then. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the stuff with Locke that hasn't been revealed yet is revealed in the season finale. It's going to be a 2 hour episode so there's lots of time for exposition...

    I personally can't wait :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Kazaanova

    Good points.

Cant wait for the finale either.

So theres 3 episodes left? Technically 4?

Born to Run, Exodus 1, Exodus 2(120 minutes). Born to Run is about Kate, Exodus 1 is about all the survivors on the day of the flight and I don't think Exodus 2 has any flashbacks, so its a pure two hours of island greatness.

As for Season 2, I really hope they keep the show plot driven and not all gimmicky. I know not all of each episode is about the plot, but this season has been perfect. Movie quality flashbacks for character development, great island happenings to drive the plot and then we get a break with light hearted stuff. Theres no fat at all. It would be so easy to turn this into a sitcom on an island. I'd hate to see "This week the survivors use a camera to record messages for people" or "This week the survivors find a monkey and keep it as a pet". If they started having episodes like that, the show would still be great, but it just wouldnt be Lost anymore.

Definitely RTE2. The "Coming Soon" promo during Boston Public last night was branded RTE2. It's to run at 10pm on Mondays from the 23rd of May. O2 paid €150,000 for its sponsorship, and as the pilot will be shown as the 90-minute version.

Well, no. I meant the episode itself is a 90-minute version, with "Pilot, Part I" and "Pilot, Part II" being combined into a movie-length episode. (Otherwise, Part I ends at the pilot being found in the tree by Kate, Charlie and Jack.)

The combined version will run from 10pm to about 11.45pm on RTE2, though, and with breaks.

    I reckon
more people have to die for the hatch to be open. Rousseau was talking about the hatch itself (or who/whatever's in there) when she said "Il les a tous tués". The light came on when Boone snuffed it, and Walt realises more harm will come to people if they progress towards opening it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭digiman

Whats all this about walt knowing stuff about the hatch? I know from previous eps that strange things happen around him. Was this in the latest clip from the next episode? If so does anyone have a link?
