    yeah are Project Bands any good personally i dislike a band which has profit margins, Business plans, Extensive 5 year schedules when the end the focus is shifted away from the real part - SELF EXPRESSION.

    They use alot of Mass media to get to the top (ever seen an extensive R.A.T.M. ad campaign on T.V.).like Those bands who gets instand top 10 on there first album.

    im not saying the music is bad.i'm saying it lacks spirit.

    a few examples are (gorillaz, Hearsay (most pop), Rap (its creeping in) and obviously Linkin' Park)

    a few examples of the opposite (Rage Against The Machine, Blink 182, Bush, Placebo and Deftones)

    let me hear your opinion?

    my opinion is Blink 182, Bush, Placebo and the Deftones are just as crapply produced ****e as Hearsay.

    Gotta agree with Kali,
    Take placebo for example, they are on one of the biggest labels in the world (Sony), and have been tailor made to fit the teen angst, post grunge with a bit of bowie glamour thrown in market. Blink 182 are even more obviously so.

    Anyway, Zeemoud, aren't you the one offering to sell the first comer a freshly burned CD full of this sh!t, all for a "reasonable price". At least the scumbag record exec with a degree in marketing goes to a little effort to produce this ****e. You're just sponging.

    And on the subject of projects, Belle and Sebastian were set up as part of some sort of training/back-to-work/college type thing and look at them, or even better, listen to them.

    the SCENE has always been commercial. 80 years ago, people didn't mass produce 78's for the sake of it, there was a quick buck to be made. During Victorian times, the sale of sheet music was massive, and just as orchastrated as the pop charts are now.
    Going back further, Ludwig Van and the boys all wrote their stuff so that they could chill with the princes and fair maidens.

    What we have now is just a conglomeration of all this added with the ultra neo liberal economics of our times. Instead of seperate markets, London, Vienna and Paris are all part of a Region for people like EMI and BMG.
    History doesn't end or begin with our musical awakenings...

    I assumed you meant band members setting up other bands as side projects of their main band. Like that Napalm Death guitarist setting up Carcass, Mike Muir and Janes Addiction geezer setting up Infectious Grooves and Your man from dEUS setting up Moondog Junior. But anyway......

    Blink 182 are OBVIOUSLY set up to cash in as are Placebo (as stated by harvee). The majority of music in the charts especially in US charts are "project" based bands. I dunno really if its a bad thing really. commercialisation dosen't mean its ****e, just meand more people like it and you dont look as "cool" to all your matoes. Destiny's Child are deadly imo for example.

    Have a mate who if a band he likes gets popular like David grey was one of "his" bands years ago, he gets all ****ed and won't listen to them anmore. He also INSISTS on telling everyone he listened to them long before another. Its all a bit sad really.
