There have been requests on this forum in the past for sources of inexpensive chips. Well, Argos is selling a tin of 200 "Professional weight and quality" chips for €23.99. They appear to be in four colours.

They are fine for the odd game, come in a nice tin and chips are in a good rack but they are very light. Cards are rubbish and the felt you get with it is good for nothing. You can get a very good set of 11.5g chips with an aluminium case for around €99 if you shop about.

Finally after 2 weeks of shipping delays in rotherdam, all chips are back in Special Days 5g plastic, 9g composite, 9g "vegas" clay, 11.5g clay/resin composite & 13.5g clay. All sets have a choice of wpt/bicycle/bee playing cards and you are also welcome to choose your colour combination. Sets are in 300, 400 & 500. - and prices have dropped a little due to dollar.

a starter set is a basic 5g (casino size chip) set of 400 for under 60.00 whilst 500 "vegas" pro-clay in alu case is 199.00

    Note on prices -

There is still a 13% levy placed on imports, (+2.9% duty + 21% VAT) but the levy is set to go from January if USA / Europe can finally agree on their trade war! - If it goes ahead look forward to further price reductions in the new year.

If you are looking for some good chip sets at decent prices try www.fullhousepokerchips.com , they were at the toys4bigboys show in the rds last weekend. They have a nice selection of sets and poker tables, and they are irish!

Both the Irish site and special days chips look like excellent value. Therefore, in order to purchase said items I wish to offload the case of 500 chips I got on ebay and still havent used. Frankly they're not great and neither is the aluminium case they came in. They are very heavy though, but a bit slidey that is, they tend not to stack too good.
Anyhoo, they cost me 180 euro about 6 months ago so if someone wants to make me an offer of about 100 euro they can have them. Most are still in their plastic. just email me at desfarrell@hotmail.com. U can pick them up at the Fitz where i shall be playing like a monkey in heat over the Christmas. However if I were u I'd buy the ones from the other two places....
    Cheers! Des

After falling fowl of the buy what you see attitude of E-bay ( got utter crap for £40 ex delivery) i managed to find this place. If you keep an eye on it they put up 2 for one offers making the chips very affoardable between two. Me and my mate managed to get two set of 11.5g composits for about €45 each, Shipped direct to me in a couple of days. Passed the link on to my boss and he bought to sets of chips and two tables. well worth the daily peek to see if anything is worth getting.

Good to see that whilst we may not agree on the use of chips we at least agree on the value of them. :)
