Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sharing Eircom Broadband Connection Wirelessly. How?

I have a just recently got myself an Eircom Broadband subscription with a Cayman Netopia 4 port DSL modem. I wanted to share my connection wirelessly so i bought an 802.11b router and a wireless card. I plugged an Rj-45 cable from the router internet port to a spare port on my dsl modem. Switched on my pc and it says that i have a network connection with excellent signal. Trouble, is i cannot connect to the internet with it. I messed around with all sorts of networking utilities but i'm getting no joy.

So the question is has anybody manage to share their connection and how the hell did you do it???

    Thanks!!!

I had the same trouble as you.I should preface this by saying I'm no expert but I did get mine working just bfore I hit it with a hammer.

I think you shold plug your wireless router internet into the port on the Cayman that you would use for a normal connection.

Check that its set up for PPPoE and your eircom name and password and your host name are in & dont forget to SAVE IT( My router is a Linksys the set up disc failed completely to detect the correct eircom BB settings).

If there's a DHCP set up enable it -the starting IP address should be 192.168.1.2 for the Netopia, also put in the Static DNS 1(159.134.237.6) and DNS 2 (159.134.248.17)...............~It was this DHCP bit got it working for me.

Hope this might help you in the right direction, don't ask me to explain it cos I can't !

............and also switch off all encryption on the wireless - router and PC cards until you get it going properly....it also helped me to have the PC and router up and running before switching on the BB modem

Listen mate thanks a million. I tried almost everything you suggested and nothing seemed to work. Then i plugged the bloody cable out as you suggested and put it into a normal lan port and it now works

it works but its not wireless!! i am having the same bloody problem. :(
My laptop sees the wireless router inwireless mode, i can connect to the router and look at all its settings but cant connect to the internet at all. its fine if i plug in a lan cable but thatdefeats the purpose of having a wireles router! Help!

Scruff-- I can't really add any more to the above which is specific to Eircom,
Even now though I find that if all equipment has been switched off,I have to get the PC and router running first then switch on the BB modem, sometimes I might have to switch the modem twice for it to work.Make sure the encryption - WEP WPA is switched off in PC and router till you're sure its working.

Hey, may be able to help - mind that I'm just back form the pub & have more black stuff in me that blood!

I had to do the same recently with my mothers machine.

log on to your Netopia using the IP for the machine (problably 192.168.2.1 or something similar - check your manual) in there you can set you be able to set the user name & password for eircoms adsl (****e!! service & my mum is going to UTV as soon as her 1yr contract is up!) service , the netopia will 'dial' errorcoms adsl everytime a page is requested - set you wireless jobby to abtain ip dynamicly etc.

    hope that helps
