Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wireless from McDonalds - problems

    Hi

Spent a bulk of this morning trying to log on from a McDonalds. Was able to ping the logon website, had an IP address however was unable to load the logon page from IE, Netscape or Firefox. This logon page should have automatically and it did not. Was unable therefore to get onto the Internet

    Any ideas ?

    Regards

    Vincent

Make sure you disable any proxy configuration you have, and make sure you use DHCP.

Otherwise, it should work just fine.

It could have been a local problem though.

    Thanks

Is there a list of wifi enabled McDonalds restaurants somewhere? Its not on their own website (why the hell not?).

    are mc'd's providing access now?

or were you just logging on to someone elses access point while eating a burger?
if its theres, then surely someone at mcdonalds would be able to tell you how to access it

Aha! I'm after finding the list of eircom hotspots at last, and believe me it wasn't easy!

So, looks like there are about 10 McDs in Dublin, and 1 each in Clare, Limerick, Louth and Monaghan currently wifi enabled.

how would i go about it?

managed to pick up a connection in McD's on the kylemore road in dublin from the car park, but it being an eircom hotspot meant paying for it.

    their two pricing options were:
    a: €10 for 1 hour
    b: €20 for 24 hours

the most ridiculous pricing scheme i've ever seen IMO

stagolee - in theory, with a powerful directional (yagi) antenna you can pick up a wifi connection from quite a distance (several hundred meters in some cases) but if you do not pay for the use of the connection or otherwise have an agreement with the owner, then i believe connecting to the network is illegal.

i wonder if it's the same setup they have in the McD's in the US. if so there was an article in the 2600 mag about hacking into it and gettign unlimited time online with a little bit of jiggery pokery. not that i'd advocate such things.

especially from poor, under funded mcdonalds, when they supply such good food. ;)
