get the little radio Transmitter, then you can use it through your Radio.

alternativley you could use a bog standard tape adaptor (the kind that one end slots into the tape player, and the other to the ipod.)
cheap as chips and available from any music store.
The iTrip is less messy tho - no cables.

... which, incidentally, are illegal for use here in Ireland.

They are radio transmitters and, hence, are illegal to operate.

Strictly speaking, yes, but I wouldn't be too worried about getting caught.

Agree with ya dcGT, but they are illegal, although it'd be a) hard to detect the device, and b) cant see it going to court.

But it's an illegal device, all the same.

Perhaps, but I don't imagine it would be too handy to obtain a broadcasting license :)

    Not True,

If Bertie requested the aforementioned item to be placed in his anus, then it's not illegal.

Ok so if it's illegal to use this without a licence, would it also be illegal to supply them? some of those Ebay prices are tempting...
How about other types of transmitters, like garage door openers, radio control transmitters, etc.?

Hmmm.. I'm not sure about the legalities of supplying them, but I think one of the problems with the ipod transmitter, is that it transmits to public radio frequencies (88 - 108 Mhz roughly), whereas the likes of garage doors, radio control transmitters etc. usually operate at much higher frequencies. For example, some car alarm tranmitters and alarm pagers operate at about 433 Mhz. Also, I think there is a limit to the strength of the signal emitted by these devices.

Ah yes, but not all of us have a tape deck in our cars!
Never thought I'd see the day were I'd consider a tape deck more modern than a cd player

i used to have the griffin itrip [sold it about a month ago]
worked fine in most cars, but sh1t in others. because its only a small transmitter,
you need a good reciever to pick up the signal aswell.

i saw itrips a while back in a camera shop on grafton street.
i am currently using the cardock [search for it on ebay] in my car,
the non-fm version. i have a lead that goes into the back of my stereo,
so no loss of quality. see it here:
    http://www.funkysmart.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=17157

you can get an fm version aswell.
they are not illegal to sell. they are illegal to carry/use.
just like a pocket knife. legal to sell, but illegal to carry a concealed weapon.
