Dimebag Darrell shot dead last night

I think its quite sad and pathetic that Irish_rover compares what happened to Dimebag to the likes of Hendrix, Cobain and Stayley

1. Cobain killed himself with a gun
2. Hendrix/Stayley killed himself with drugs
3. Dimebag died doing what he loved - entertaining people and playing music

Now how in the blue hell can you compare what happened to him to the others you mentioned?

How is he responsible (as far as you know) for his own death, how exactly is he comparably selfish for dying the way he did?

This thread is for people to show their appreciation for who and what Dimebag was to us all - and as for you, you freaking little thread hijacker you are now on the ignore list - that way your crap wont be noticed by me at all, and I encourage others in this thread to do the same

Is it fair to say - that in the aftermath of Dimebag and the others deaths - it will be a case of blame the music and not the guns

Plus aswell, in the latest issue of Metal Hammer - Anselmo had some seriously harsh words for Dimebag - I wonder if some nut took those words to heart?

The media will do what they always do - they'll say music of a violent nature breeds violent acts & that more censorship is needed.... wonder if Tipper Gore will make another appearance to add her unwanted 2 cents worth?

Anselmo is gonna feel pretty stupid now, cos he can NEVER take any words back or sit down with Darrell to sort this out.... this will be a big regret in his life for years to come. Cos no matter how much crap he talked about the Abbott brothers, he shared a BIG part of his life with them on the road, making their (all members of Pantera) dreams come through & writing music that was relevant & fresh.... haven't seen any statements from Anselmo in the press yet.... wonder if there will be. The only statement I've seen so far from Zakk Wylde is what's on his website.... he's gonna be hurting bad, cos him & Darrell were very close friends... & then there's Vinnie Paul, man him & the rest of the Abbott family are gonna be reeling for a long time after this.... and anyone elses families affected by this or people who died at the concert!!! People aren't supposed to die at concerts - everyone is there to have a good time.... very messed up if you ask me!!!

I think the world of Metal will change forever. I can't recall an artist being shot on stage before. It has seriously huge implications for music in general. If a band are in mortal danger when they take the stage, then how many bands are going to want to tour the states? The traditional route for breaking into the states was relentless touring, but how many bands are going to want to do that. Darrel is, sadly, probably the first of many. Usually over there, once a line has been broken, several other wackos follow the lead (say all the school shootings for example).

There's an update, neither Vinne nor Pat were killed

Columbus police department spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio identified three of the victims of Wednesday's (Dec. 8) shooting at a Columbus nightclub as "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, guitarist with the heavy metal rock band DAMAGEPLAN, and two other men, Nathan Bray and Erin Halk (both of them said to be audience members), according to the Associated Press.

DAMAGEPLAN had just begun their first song at the Alrosa Villa when the man opened fire, first targeting Abbott, shooting him multiple times at point-blank range, a witness said.

The witness, 22-year-old Chris Couch, said he was standing about 30 feet away from the stage when he noticed a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and hockey jersey walk up to the stage, followed by a bouncer and another club employee.

The man in the jersey climbed onto the stage, started yelling and shot the guitarist five or six times at close range, Couch said. He said the gunman also shot a bouncer who pulled him off the musician.

Columbus police spokesman Sgt. Brent Mull said that after shooting at members of the band, the gunman fired into the crowd.

Columbus police were flooded with 911 calls from concertgoers right after the shooting. Some witnesses said the alleged gunman took someone hostage. Minutes later, a Columbus police officer entered the nightclub and shot and killed the man.
